I'd say very little chance of October. Word around the watercooler (including some pretty well-connected folks over at WDW Magic) suggests that late 2009 means very late November or December, and that's only if everything goes exactly according to plan. The folks who've demonstrated they have good information in the past are suggesting that it's more likely to be about 10 months.
IMO, this is long overdue. WDW's Space is a fine classic, but it's positively ancient compared to some of the wonderful things they've done with DL's version. I don't think the Florida Space is going to get quite the same level of attention, but it should be a nice upgrade.
Many years ago when we went to Disney World in Florida we were unimpressed by the number of rides / attractions that were closed for refurbishment. We were even less impressed by the massive signs on them all saying "Closed now to make your future experience even better" or words to that effect. When you've travelled several thousand miles to get there, "your future experience" isn't uppermost in your mind.
Sorry to hear that. I thought Disney tried to avoid shutting down the popular rides during peak seasons. We're going this summer. I didn't like the ride that much. But my kids are going to be VERY disappointed.
