    The more things change........................

Fascinating and right on time ! We could've set our watches by it.

I can only see these with a super strong trader (Allen House), but not a moderately strong trader.

    No more deposits from me.

Thanks, Spence for putting this out there.

Yes, othes have reported and posted this.

Interesting that these prices are just about the same as Disney rents them for - I guess there will be no discounts - when II had these weeks as 'getaways' - they were moe in line with getaway prices - a search of the II exchange op forum will show this.

          This is old news.
Not only is it old news, but there's a "tell" that lets you know this is developer inventory that the Mouse is marketing through RCI, and not owner deposits. Search for DVC rental for the answer---I've typed it too many times to bother doing it again.

I can see lots of Disneys in RCI to exchange to with my Cape Cod summer week.

This was news for me, too, and I'm an RCI member.

You guys have to pay more attention to the forums.

That's cash/CRO inventory, not Member inventory. If you look carefully, you'll see that anyone renting those units signs up for ME using WDTC's website for third-party bookings, but exchange guests do so by calling Member Services. The web site only accepts reservation #'s in CRO's format. Member Services only deals with DVC-style bookings.

Completely separate pools, unless someone gets a rental that tells them to call Member Services to arrange transportation. Disney is just using RCI as a marketing channel. That makese sense---Disney has a very successful rental arm, and smart lawyers. The last thing they want is price competition from RCI and its bottom-feeder fire sales.

I'm not saying that this information isn't useful. I'm just saying that I've seen it posted in several other places.

Actually, I'm so turned off to RCI that I'm probably tuning them out, therfore, not reading their emails. I can hardly keep with my daily Boston Globe or WSJ nowadays.

I appreciate that Spence brought this out in a forum that I actually read or I wouldn't have been aware of RCI's (no surprise) antics.

Late info or not, it was helpful to those not "in the know".

                      B.

The conflict of an exchange company also renting inventory from the same resorts aside, one of our earliest, longest-running frustrations, and one of others, is the unavailability of inventory for exchange when at the same time units sit empty.

It is that frustration of only being able to get what has been deposited, and not having confidence that all that was deposited is going for exchanges.

I don't know how to put this any more simply---there is compelling evidence that these aren't Member-owned units that were deposited. They are units owned by the Mouse, with which the Mouse will do what it will.

As Mickey is pretty successful with his rental business (he runs a dozen or so "regular" hotels in addition to the half-dozen or so timeshares) he's not about to let someone exchange in and produce no rental revenue beyond the $95 nuisance fee if he thinks there's still a chance someone will pay cash.

There are a lot of reasons to bash RCI. This isn't one of them. This is a reason to hate Mickey---and there are no shortage of those, either.

There is also compelling information that RCI does rent weeks extracted from the exchange pool.
