Quick question regarding HVC and points. Once you buy T/S w/ Hyatt and allot X amount of points. Can you purchase on top of that? For example if I bought at T/S w/ 1400 points could I add onto that years down the line? Thanks in advance.....

Yes.. You would simply purchase another week. The only caveat being that you would want the deed and vesting to read the same on both ownerships to avoid any difficulty or confusion in combining your accounts for usage and also for exchange.my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

I have another quick question if you don't mind? When you give up your week and submit it back to Hyatt, does your week need to be booked or does something need to happen in order for your to book a different week at the same resort or another resort? Thanks in advance....

You are buying a specific week and unit. It is automatically reserved for you until six months prior to use, when it automatically reverts to the use of the Club (all owners) if you have not declared your intent to use your owned week by that time. However, the minute you get your year's points (exactly one year before the checkin date) you can start to use them to reserve the usage you want. Your owned week automatically converts to Club use as soon as you use your points to reserve somewhere else. I think you can keep part of your owned week, like the weekend or mid-week, and just convert some of the week to points. Everyone in the Club has equal priority in reserving any available usage, ie, you do not have priority at your home resort except for during your purchased week. Hyatt keeps waiting lists so if you know what you want get on the waitlist as soon as possible. By planning ahead you can secure the usage you want in most cases.

This is most complete explanation of how the Hyatt reservation system works that I have seen. Hyatt is a fantastic program- and one that I recommend often to buyers.
My advice is always the same.. Buy the resort and week that you plan on using most often. Using exchange- either internal or via a third party exchange company- as simply icing on the cake.
When buying- consider price as well as closing costs as they can vary greatly by location. Good luck!my travel website: Vacation-Times.org.

We just bought a Hyatt as well. We asked repeatedly whether the Home Resort Preference Period is only a benefit if you plan to use your specific week and specific unit. We were told it is a benefit if you will be using any unit or week within your season. It sounds like this is not the case. We can't be tied to one week due to work schedules, etc. - so really the Home Resort Preference Period will be of little benefit to us. Unless you plan on using your specific week and unit, sounds like you would be better off buying points at one of the least expensive resorts and then just trading to get into the resort you want since it becomes a free for all at the 6 month mark.
Also, if they give you points one year out from your use week, I assume the points can still only be used to make a reservation one year out if you opt to go during a different week or different property - or would you have to wait until you were within the booking window - which actually sounds like it would be at most 6 months out.

Hac, A lot of inventory opens up before the 6 month mark, as folks exchange their weeks within the internal system, or their other options. At six months, the availability increases since the HRRP ends and lots of unreserved weeks default into the system. And during CUP you can reserve anything that is available with your points- even if the dates are past your use week.

Calgal,
Thanks for the feedback. When you say a lot of inventory opens up before the 6 month mark due to owner's trading their weeks, does this apply to units/weeks at your home resort only, or at all Hyatt properties? I am still trying to understand the benefit of home resort preference if it only applies to your specific unit/week. Disney has home resort preference in their vacation club but it applies to any unit/week at your home property.

It applies to all Hyatt properties in the traditional vacation club. I don't think there is a home preference except for your specific week owned. However, there are some residence club properties where owners own floating time within their season, and those weeks do not open to the overall Hyatt club until 6 months before check in.

The four in Colorado, the one in Truckee, and Siesta Key in Key West are listed on the Hyatt website as residence club (vs vacation club). Carmel Highlands Inn is a specific week, specific unit purchase, I am pretty sure. What time of year do you plan to go to Highlands Inn? I have found availability there to be pretty open, probably because the point values required to stay there are high.

Hyatt and II
I have been playing with the ideal of buying another Hyatt Diamond or Platinum week EY or EOY but have been a little unhappy about the need to pay another II fee when I have not used II a single time since I owned my Beach House Silver week since 2009. Now would need to pay 2x the fee if I get another Hyatt week.
Does the multiple week owner have any options for that? Or just the cost of doing business with Hyatt? When you cannot combine your non-Hyatt weeks with your Hyatt II accounts, I might need another II account if I want to deposit in them again which would make it 3 accounts if I buy a 2nd Hyatt week
Does a lot of the other Hyatt owner using II? If so what % do you use versus Hyatt reservation.Traveling Broadens the mind and I want to do more French Quarter Fest in New Orleans is my favourite festival
