Starwood reservation cancellation policies

I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me some information on Starwood's reservation cancellation policies? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, definitely check mystarcentral, but my recollection is that if you change a ressie prior to the 8 month mark, there is no problem. Once you are within 8 months, I believe there is a fee involved. If it is very close to the reservation (within a month or so) there may be other consequences, but not having ever done that, I don't remember what they are.
