  • Leftover HGVC points question

Turns out that the use of our points did not go as planned for this year, and I now have points leftover. I have 780 points that will expire this year and I can't really figure a good way to use them.

Is there anything that I can do with them besides RCI nightly stays? I know that HGVC nightly is possible also, but too far to drive anywhere there is an HGVC for only a couple nights.

Does anyone know if any resorts in Indiana or Illinois use nightly stays?

My husband has another vacation coming up, that we had planned to stay home for, but if we can find something close for a couple of days, that might be nice. Can't seem to get the offered list of RCI nightly stay resorts from the HGVC site. Is there a trick?

Is there a way to give away points? I just hate to see them wasted.

OK, I realize that I should not try to post sensibly late at night, so I apologize for the rambling, but would appreciate the help.

    Hotel stays

The way I figure it you could use them for a hotel stay equivelent to 17,940 in hilton honors points. You could use some from next years points to combine with this to do a two night hotel stay at a driving distance location. If you have Hilton honors points in your regular HH account you can use in combo with HH points.

If you are going to do a hotel stay book it soon as sometimes they suspend this feature toward the end of the year.

I would call HGVC and get there ideas also.

Can you get hotel stays without converting to HHonors? I know that it is much too late to convert to them, and I can't figure out if there is a way to do it without converting.

Calling HGVC is definately on my list of things to do.

      Thanks,

      Tanya

Yes you can do a direct reservation for a hotel without converting all points. There is a reservation fee so its not the best use of points but it is an option. Just don't wait until the end of the year as the usually suspend this exchange option for a period of time at the end of the year.

I am going to try for a hotel near Gurnee in Illinois to go to Great America. My hubby and I haven't been there in near 15 years, and the kids are old enough to get something out of it, so thrill rides it is!

We'll see how it turns out. Even with a fee, it should be better than wasting the points and paying totally out of pocket for a hotel room.

I am depositing all our 2007 points into 2008 so I won't have this happen next year. The best laid plans....sigh.

Where is a good place to read about the HGVC club? I own at Hurricane House, and may join the club. What is the plan year - Jan-Dec, or does it determine when you join?

Can you carry over points, and if so, for one year or two?

            Thanks,
            Suzy
