In the recent Grand Times there was an article "Points in Perapective". I was wondering if anyone had any comments on this. It doesn't sound good for existing owners. They are going to include the unit that you own in deerming point values needed. They say for existing properties won't be any change. But they are talking about new propertites using this concept. It sounds like existing owers points won't be worth as much at the newer resorts????

I think that it would be correct to say that whatever points you have now will maintain their value in the existing resorts. But new resorts may have much more complex charts so that an oceanfront unit will be worth more than another unit without a view.
I am NOT an HGVC owner, but this has recently happened with Fairfield Resorts. Many of the newer resorts under construction have ENORMOUS points charts which make it clear that a particular view (or a higher floor in some towers) are worth more points.
Almost every new resort built will require more points than the older resorts. But if you travel to the current destinations available I wouldn't expect a change. Of course, since Hilton is still building resorts, expect to feel the pressure to buy more points to take advantage of some of the best new facilities.

they talk about the newer resorts will also have more amenities like spas and such that will cost more points and they are also adding a location in nyc. i wonder how many points that will take. Lets just wait and see. the just devalued all the hhonors points for the lower end hotels by bumping them all up one class.

Just a guess...
Here is what I am thinking:
They are forever chasing me to upgrade to 7,000 pts from my 5,000 pts. I bet the new locations will all bump one level on the points chart. Ie. it will now take 7,000 pts. for a 2 BR Gold reservation. Just more leverage for the sales people to upgrade you!
Cheers,
Steve

Just at the HGVC at Waikoloa, were they have a new point system for their resort. All 2 bd units but to charge more for the points they have different view levels. Still just 7000 pt for platiunum 2 bd, but they say that it has the poorest view, mid view is 8400 and best view is 9600 pts.
I've seen all the views and there is little difference between them and would be happy with the 7000 pt unit anytime.Bill
