According to the folks at FlyerTalk, the StarPoint devaluation is happening right now. There have been reports that some hotels have been bumped up to the next category. More of this is likely to happen once the category 7 is implemented in February. If you have been saving your StarPoints for a trip someday to a high end hotel, now is the time to make the reservation, while you still have enough StarPoints for it! You can make reservations for up to 18 months in the future, and you can always cancel them later. I just made reservations today for a trip to Italy DH and I have been talking about doing "someday." The prospect of devaluation was enough to spur us into make the reservation for Easter 2008.

Count me among those who are not the least bit surprised that "devaluation" of points has begun. The currency of points is totally in the corporate favor, and will, like airline ff miles, always be vulnerable to this sort of "tweaking" to squeeze the consumer.Life is short, live it with this awareness.
