  • Best use of this year's HGVC week

We are in the process of purchasing a float week at the Charter Club of Marco Beach, an HGVC affiliate. The current owners had already reserved July 4th week for this year-which we won't be able to use. My daughter and I have been plotting a mother and daughter trip to Las Vegas when she turns 21. She is a college junior and has an internship this summer, so we are really only able to travel to Las Vegas in mid-August (hot!).

I am trying to think of how to best use this year's Charter Club week. My thoughts are:
    1. Keep it simple and rent our July 4th week to one of our siblings, asking them to cover all or a part of the maintenance fee (which would be less than if they rented on their own).

    2. Try to rent out the unit on TUG or EBay-not sure how popular July 4th week is-but we could probably rent for more than our maintenance fee.

    3. Trade internally within the Hilton system for a week in August at one of the HGVC properties in Las Vegas for that mother-daughter trip-perhaps for less than a week if that is possible. Daughter and I would only need a one bedroom-could we reserve 3 or 4 nights by trading our points within HGVC and deposit the balance with RCI for future use?

    4. If we can do number 3, how hard would it be to use the remaining points for a long weekend for my husband and I? I've read that HGVC allows you to use points for less than a full week. What about RCI? A fall long weekend at Samoset in Maine , Smuggs in Vermont or Massanutten in Virginia when the leaves turn color might be nice-but I was not sure whether an RCI trade for less than a week would be possible.

    4. Deposit the points with RCI and give us more vacation options next year or the year after. Perhaps hope for an Open Season rental opportunity via HGVC in either August or early January (daughter's winter college break) to do the Las vegas trip-not sure whether there is Open Season availability in Las Vegas for HGVC members during either of those times.

Any suggestions on what the best option would be? I am excited about being a Charter Club owner (especially resale ), but want to make the best use of this year's week.

Been a few years since we were HGVC members (Charter Club, Hurricane House). As I remember, you can either trade your week for an RCI week or RCI points. This may be more advantageous than the 3500 pts you will get with hgvc. You will get good trades with your new week. We really enjoyed hgvc but moved to AZ and would not be travelling to FL as much.

It seems to me the easiest thing to do is cancel the July reservation and re-book what you want in Vegas. Then look around the other HGVC clubs for availability and chose where you want to go with the rest of your points. It is probably now the 9 month window for reserving what you want in Vegas or elsewhere. The best part of the HGVC is you do not need to use anyone for exchanges to other HGVC locations at the 9 month timeframe. Call the club and ask them. They are very helpfull.

I have 4 HGVC properties, including Charter Club, and play the points. I recommend one of the following:
        1. Cancel the week and have the points redeposited to your account. This assumes you have time available and units available where/when you want to go in 2007. Points cannot be carried forward to 2008.
        2. July 4th week would be a good trader if you deposit it with SFX.
