I post this but it annoys me that we have to pay at all.
It is free at Residence Inn and Townplace Suites and Fairfield Inns

I agree. That's why I try to stay at Residence Inn if there is a choice and the free breakfasts and dinner are a nice perk too.

Paying for internet service, by my way of thinking, is like paying to use the television! Ridiculous. This sort of thing makes me bananas when travelling for work....

About a month ago, I bought a prepaid broadband card from Virgin Mobile. It uses Sprint's 3G network, so decent coverage and speed, but you only pay for it when you need it---no contract. It works out to be less expensive than most hotel networks, and often is more reliable and performs better, too.
