Interesting - especially in light of the proposed/supposed roll out of their internal points program.

Yeah.....Waiting to see what happens with that in June.

Either way, they would still need to be associated with an exchange co for those looking to exchange outside of the Marriott brand.

        Interval Points system

How does the points system work? What are the plans (timing?) to convert to points? Interesting....

Rumor has it that in June Marriott will be rolling out a points system. Nothing concrete, just rumor at this point. Waiting for June.....

June 2010 is the expected rollout date.. They've run into a few problems with registration of the new product- but I think the timeline is still accurate.. I've heard that a very respected lawfirm, Foley & Lardner, has been involved- as well as First American Title. I attended a Foley event recently, and can confirm they were a much higher number of Marriott employees in attendance than usual. Coincidence? Possibly, but not likely...

I expect you can probably look at the Ritz-Carlton Destination Club product for a possibility of how the new Marriott Vacation Club program may be set up and operate. As with any new points product, the issue for existing owners will be lack of availability (for the trust inventory) at resorts that have been sold as weeks and have a large majority of weeks owners. For example- Grande Vista and Ocean Pointe may be very limited availability to points owners until Marriott starts to convert a large number of existing weeks owners.

The one area that has been completely hush, is whether or not the points will be allowed to transfer via resale (makes me wonder if that could part of the issues with the registration).. Hopefully, the state of Florida will require that transferability be allowed for it to be registered and sold in Florida... Hopefully....

Interesting that Ritz-Carlton is mentioned as a possible model. OY most seemed to be focused on the Asian Pacific points program. There's a TON of speculation about what Marriott might be doing.

According to Fletch, who has left Marriott sales, resale owners will be allowed to join but it will be at a higher price. I guess we'll all find out when they roll it out. A few sources have indicated that Marriott sales will shut down for two week to train all their sales staff. Of course sales staff is using scare technique to try to get people to buy now before the change. Real information is hard to come by but rumor and speculation are running rampent.

Personally, I'm excited to see something new offered but not overly excited that it will be something we want to use. We bought both our Marriott units to use the master suites and exchane the lock-off's. With that in mind I'm not certain that any new type of ownership or exchange system will be of much use to us.
