Just returned from the Marriott outside of Paris

Had a great time. This is a lovely resort. We were there in the shoulder season (March 2010) - very near the TGV (Euro-Express) rail, the RER (Regional Express Rail) and Disneyland. Units were clean reasonably well equipped (no good knives), and new! There is a village nearby that is walkable and also a public transit bus (inexpensive). This place probably really hops in the summer. Highly recommend.

This is a resort that has held some interest for me. I would also be interested in transit from the resort into Paris as I'd just as soon not rent a car if we ever get that far.

We were there in December and had a nice stay at the Marriott. We used the resort mainly to visit Euro Disney. We had a car so did not use the public transportation system. However, I saw that the RER has a stop at Euro Disney. And, the Marriott runs a shuttle to Disney so I'm sure you could easily take the RER from Paris to Disney and then take the shuttle to the resort. Based on what I saw, the RER from Paris to Disney probably is no more than 45 minutes. I'm sure some folks on this site have done this and can provide more details. Tim

Public transportation is easy enough. The resort charges 2Euros per person for their shuttle to the train (RER - Regional Rail) or (TGV - Euro-express). That is also where Disneyland Paris is. We had a car, but for our trips, in retrospect I would have preferred to use the TGV to Dijon and other locales. The RER is relatively inexpensive and goes to Paris Central (it's about at 40 minute train ride). It is ENTIRELY doable to use public transport. Before we headed to the resort we spent 3 nights in Central Paris at the Marriott on the Champes Elysees - very nicely located. We used the metro and RER exclusively and found it easy to navigate and inexpensive (relative to a taxi or rental car). We took it to Versailles, and all over Paris (we also used the bus, which was a breeze). Good luck! Dijon, by the way, was our absolute favorite outside of Paris. Also, the Cathedral in Reims was breathtaking and made Notre Dame in Paris look like a parish chapel. Even our 7 year old was captivated......

New to the forum !

RCI members ( 1 week and a points package at Summer Bay Resort + 1 week in Cabarete (D.R.) Part of the package was bought this week thru EBAY and we're planning to use it to go to Europe probably summer 2011.

We've been to Paris many times and enjoy it so much each time. Two years we made something pretty cool . My wife went to France for a month with her brother. They made house rentals in three different part of France and visited areas not in the usual touristic circuit like small villages where tourists just don't come. They had such a great time. I flew to Paris for the last and fourth week of their trip ; 4 days by myself and the last 3 days with them ; then the return flight all together.

Our mother tongue being French , it's pretty easy to establish relationships with the locals and that's part of the fun. I was staying in a small hotel near the Effeil Tower . After only one day , I had made friends at a local bar where I stopped from a last drink every night ( waiters , cab drivers ). So much fun ; my favorite buddy was a typical French waiter ( me first then the customers LOL ) . So when my wife and her brother joined me after their adventures in rural France, we had a little party at the bar with our new friends.

One habit we have while in France is to buy groceries where the locals shop, normally in side streets but not too far from the large Avenues. Wines are so cheap ; a bottle of Passetoutgrain costs about $23-$25 at home and sells for 2,5 euros in these shops.

Probably my funniest moment in Paris.

About 25 years ago , my wife and I were out for lunch in a restaurant where tables were very close; I had run the Paris marathon the day before and felt like pigging out on junk food . So I order a pizza, pasta along with chicken wings and couple of beers. I was dressed with shorts and a mickey mouse t-shirt , so very touristic ; then a local and his girlfriend come in and are seated next to us. The guy starts talking to his GF ( in French ) unaware we could understand everything they were saying. He didn't like my menu and was telling his GF how frustrated he was to be sitting next to a pig , a stupid tourist who probably eats burgers and fries three times a day ... etc etc , he wouldn't stop !!

they got their meal and started eating ; I turned towards them and started to talk to them in French explaining how good a pizza/pasta meal was when you're used to eat burgers and fries every meal ; The guy couldn't eat and the GF almost choked ; they stood up , went to the cashier , paid their meal and left even without finishing ... I tought about finishing their plate but .... LOL

Only in Paris !!
