Originally posted by iconnectionsFletch hinted about the conversion price for the re-sale owners today which seems to be $1,499. This is what other people understood from the hint. I don't think that is too bad because re-sale owners saved so much money upfront already. If that is the only difference between direct and re-sale owners, then most people will not complain, imho.
I also think a lot depends on the reservation rules and the valuations. Hopefully tomorrow we will have more info.

Someone from II leaked some information about the new program and the price that was mentioned really shocked me. That may be the price of the smallest point package but never for converting, I hope. I wonder how many people will stand in line to sign up? It even amazes me that people stand in line to buy a new iPhone too in this economy.
PS. I don't think that it will be per week and just a little more for all weeks. In that case, people would only put the week in that they can do without. They want ALL your weeks, I imagine.

Here is another link to the general public who are not a Marriott timeshare owner today. A new thread started OY but we can have our own discussion here too.
These people understand the system a lot better than I do and they have posted Q&As already. This person isn't even an owner but he sure was very interested and found out more about the new system than all of us combined. One of the guys is an attorney so he is reading the fine print which is very helpful.
We have time to decide what to do and extra points are offered if you sign up by a certain time. I saw two different dates mentioned but don't know for what type of points they are. Too complicated for me and we have no need to convert because we never want to stay less than seven days at our resort. I only wonder what will happen to the re-sale value if you decide not to go with the new system? Will we end up like Starwood with the mandatory and voluntary resorts or will all prices go to next to zero? The economy doesn't help either.

My head is spinning from all of the Chatter OY on this Dag gone system. And Emmy I agree with your sentiments. MVCI wants their Cake, and they want the whole cake for themselves.
Now to boot Residents of NYS seem to be excluded from this joining this Club. Someone OY posted this in reply to one of Angela's posts.
I am totally confused. One part of me sort of likes this new offering, and another part says wait it out. Of course I will wait. But it looks like I am a New York State resident and thus have no option to join anyway. So there!Flying at MACH4 +

It does appear that NYS residents are excluded. At first I thought it was just from the special offer but it does say Vacation Points. So...I don't know.
Perhaps your state is the only place that will protect it's residents from venturing over in to the "dark side"

My initial impressions:
Price to 'enroll' my two developer NCV weeks - 695.00
Annual fee - 165.00 IIUC
Points assigned for Platinum - 3475 Gold - 2900
Essentially, to reserve a week in Gold season and the 'latter' part of Platinum season (Sept and later) it's 2900 points. Platinum season varies, up to 4725 points. July 4 and Christmas weeks are higher, 5675and 4950, respectively.
Daily rates vary:
Gold season Fri-Sat - 700
Sun- Thurs - 300
Resale weeks are eligible at a much higher 'enrollment' fee, around $2K, IIRC.
It is supposedly possible to receive the MRP option when enrolling resale weeks (MRP's were only for developer sales and selected MVCI blessed resales) and people are hearing this through June 22 (typical sales pressure) but nothing yet in writing.
A targeted NCV exchange search on II using my Gold week yields only one check-in date, Dec 3, for the year between now and mid June 2011.
There are three NCV weeks for sale on eBay with only one auction, currently at 5500, for a Christmas fixed week.
I am seeing all of the current 2011 Platinum calendar (to mid-June 2011) as available; all check-in days.
Marriott stock is currently selling at 35.93, up 1.39% for the day.
I'll enroll in this program about the time that pigs fly.

Edited to add that I merged the two points discussion threads into one to consolidate opinion and information.

my question is this the way marriott will sell all future resorts?
will marriott eventually become an all points based system? or will they still sell weeks based contracts? if the weeks based system is out then only point based owners will be able to use the newest resorts how does a new resort then trade outside the marriott family?

I don't know the answer to your last question but they may not be building new resorts for several years because they have a large inventory of points (former weeks) left at several resorts from what I read and the economy is shaky too. JMHO.

All re-sale weeks will get the same benefits that direct buyers paid so much more for so the re-sale buyer was treated very fairly by the Marriott. JMHO.
People, who own the most weeks (including re-sale weeks) will do very well in the new system but I feel for the people, who own one single week or just a few because they will have a much harder time now to get a highly demanded week.

Originally posted by iconnectionsMarriott is no longer selling deeded weeks. All the weeks left went into the new point system. All new resorts will be in a trust.
Do they keep the deeds to those weeks? Or are the deeds transferred to a Trust in exchange for an interest in the trust?“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”
