  • Points and II membership - How many accounts?

Per a conversation this week with a reservation specialist, I was told that when I joined points, a new II membership would be opened for me (part of the program) and all my current info would be transferred to this account. I would receive a bonus week (AC) to compensate me for my current II membership. My assumption was that my current membership would be closed.
Since I own a single week, I didn't think much of it. However, after reading another post, I'm confused.

If I own multiple weeks, but do not enroll all of them, do I need two II accounts?
What if I own a week in Hyatt, Hilton, Disney, etc.?
What about resale weeks that are ineligible?

I imagine the answer is the same for all the scenarios.

It depends if Marriott will allow "other weeks" in their corporate account.

    Probably not.

Starwood SVN members have a corporate account for SVN weeks and have to maintain a separate account for all non-SVN Starwood weeks.
Same with Wyndham...I have a separate Wyndham II account that is paid for thru my club dues/maint fee.

OP, also, if you wish to exchange your enrolled week outside of the Marriott internal exchange system but within II, you'll need a separate II account for that, AFAIK. In such an instance, you would, as you do now, reserve your week at your resort and then deposit it or request-first it as per usual from your regular II account. If you routinely exchange or desire to exchange into non-Marriotts through II, that's your path IIUC.

I thought you could do an external exchange through the Marriott account, but just pay the exchange fee- the more I read the more confused I get.

In time everything will be clarified. I was just reading another thread OY where there's a conflict regarding fees for enrolled Marriott->Marriott *weeks* exchanges within the enrolled member's 'corporate' account. Dave is requesting clarification. Some verbiage indicates or specifies a separate II exchange fee and some verbiage indicates or specifies the exchange is covered under the blanket fee of the member's DCP account. My confused mind says NO (to joining points)

My confused mind thought that, by joining the points program, you'd never have to pay an exchange fee within Marriott. It's very disappointing that these questions were not anticipated. Confusion among your target audience is not good for business, certainly with a completely new program.
