If we lock off the 2 BR unit with the Marriott, can we still occupy the whole unit or rent it out as a 2 BR unit or try to do a direct exchange in that case? Are there more fees involved then too besides the lock-off fee for using the whole 2 BR unit?
I keep calling II to find out if there are any weeks available for one particular week (March 26) that we need but II keeps telling me that there is nothing available in March. I would like to do a request first but do not want to lock-off until they have a unit available. II told me that they would keep it on hold so I can lock it off quickly if it is during the week. They told me to keep checking.
Is that the right way to proceed?
I also read that fees are going up for joining the DC exchange program after December 29. We rather not join but the writing is on the wall that Marriott will squeeze us because they will no longer deposit any developer weeks in II unless it may be in the last two weeks or so.
Only 11% of the owners have joined so far so that shouldn't make such a difference in inventory availability in II but I may have waited too long. This is why I want to know about locking off and all the fees involved in case someone wants to rent a 2 BR unit and not a 1 BR unit.
Owning a Marriott today is nothing but a hassle! They sold it to us with the idea of locking it off and make the vacation last two weeks for the high maintenance fees but now this is a lot harder to do since they introduced the new DC exchange program.
