With the end of the year approaching, are people electing to join or just continue business as usual? I really vacillate as to what to do....

I own 2 developer weeks and one resale week - all three are lock-offs.
My buy in would be $2,000.
Based on my current pattern of use, it would take me 9+ years to make back the initial investment.
I have other ownerships so the "free' included II account does not help me.
I am deeply offended/insulted/disappointed with the "skim" Marriott has built into the system.
I have two other point ownerships that allow flexibility of travel.
It would take ALL the points from 2 of my ownerships to get 1 week in Aruba to go with my owned week there. I am able to trade those weeks one for one and get into Aruba currently thru II.
Two of my Marriott weeks I either use or rent or personally swap each year - the third one will be going to SFX/II.
I am not joining. JMHO

Since I purchased from Marriott, it would cost me $695 to enroll my weeks. However, I'm still not sure if I'm enrolling.
Pat, do I have until Dec 31 to decide? I just looked on the Marriott site, but I couldn't find the cut off date for the $695 enrollment fee.Angela

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Originally posted by GrayFalYes, I believe so....and more imoportantly, that is the cut off for getting the 800 pts good for 2011....which in your case off sets the $695 buy in.
I decided to call and speak with a Marriott rep. I was told that the cut off date is Dec 29, and that it takes a full 3 days to get the account set up. If the account is not set up before the 29th, you will forfeit the 800 points.
She said that once you pay the fee, it takes 3 days from that point. They are not counting from the time you pay the fee, but from the time you sign the paperwork which is received approx 3 days later.
Not sure how accurate any of her info is, but if you are planning to enroll, it's best to do it before the 25th.Angela

Pretty sure we won't join, but going to HHI and will go to the pitch to be sure. Since we have off season weeks that are ocean front and we use most of time, can't see it. Plus they really don't want to give many points since they are low value season.

We've decided to join in order to save on the $550/yr in a la carte fees we currently pay. Will enroll our 4 developer weeks, but not the 1 resale week which we will always use (as we do one of our developer weeks).
The person currently hounding us to enroll has also mentioned the 29th as the cut off date, but not about the 3 days needed else you forfeit the 800 points (which doesn't make sense to me anyway).
We plan to continue in the weeks mode as that serves us well and it would be too 'expensive' to make reservations points-wise based on our current travel habits.

BTW, anyone know if you can use your Marriott Visa to pay the fee? I didn't think to ask.Angela

Yes, you can use your Marriott Visa to pay the fee. Just as you can/could buy a TS week with it as well as all your MFs and nuisance fees.

As to the DC, I finally bit the bullet and joined for $695. I have three developer weeks. I don't expect to break even anytime soon and the 800 plus points are of questionable worth to me. My real reason for joining was to hedge any increase in prices and to avoid any additional charges that Marriott might be thinking of adding in the future. With the current 'skim' in place I don't see converting any weeks for point in the foreseeable future. It remains to be see if I made the right choice or not. I'm not holding my breath.

Rescind while you can!
Truth be told, If they were charging resale owners $695 I would probably join. But Marriott has their ways.
I am also convinced that all resales post June 20th will be offered to join way out in the future. 5 to 10 years. Marriott just created a lever to flip so those owners can join for say $4,000 some day.Flying at MACH4 +
