  • Referral points gone

See the response I received after we got a friend to buy into Marriott. Why would I ever refer anyone????

    Aloha Lynn,

You’re timing is great. I just found out yesterday afternoon as I was leaving that your friend purchased his week on the external market. Owners of resale weeks are not allowed to participate in the Friendshare Referral Program. So that explains why the 50,000 Marriott Rewards Points were never deposited into your friend’s account.

Let me know if you have additional questions or need me to explain this to your friend. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

    Malama pono (take good care),

You would get the points if your friend bought directly from MVCI. It doesn't appear that they did this. You didn't refer anyone to MVCI, you referred them to the resale market. Not sure why you would expect MVCI to give you the 50K MR points under the friendshare program.

Cutting off your nose to spite your face

No They bought directly from MVCI I did not. Since I referred them and they bought direct it seems that Marriott should honor the points. Just because I did not buy direct is the reason the points were rejected. Point is I own at Marriott, I referred a friend who bought from them direct, why they would not want to honor their program for someone who helped them sell ownership is beyond me but that is the last one I will do.

So you bought resale yet referred your friends to Marriott and allowed them to buy retail?

        All I can say is......wow.

But that is not what the letter said:

Are you sure they purchased direct? Did they rescind and then purchase resale?

The way this reads to me, it was the friend who bought direct inquiring as to way to OP wasn't awarded the referal points. But, it is confusing.

I think the OP needs to talk to someone at the corporate office, not a salesperson.

Yes it was a letter to my friend who bought direct about me (who bought resale). So yes a little confusing. I gave my friends the information about resale. People have to make their own decisions about how to purchase. I will talk to corporate as well but I don't expect much in the way response. I was just venting my frustration. Thanks you all for that.
