We arrived in Park City yesterday afternoon for a weeks stay at Mountainside. This will be our first full weeks vacation since my wife got sick back in Nov. or last year. For the most part, this trip will be spent relaxing rather than exploring. To many knots to get out of our ropes after the last six months to do much more than shopping and sight seeing.
My first impression has been that it's typical Marriott quality but they've perhaps used to many dark colors. The unit and resort just seem dark to me. I had a devil of a time getting any sort of decent pictures of the unit due to poor lighting. Our unit, as is the case with what appears to be a majority of the units from the resort map, faces the hill directly behind the resort. Mountainside is a very appropriate name IMHO. This probably adds to the preceived darkness as it puts the units in the shade.
I see an indoor pool on the resort map. I've only seen outdoor hot tubs and an outdoor pool without the indoor/outdoor feature that would allow one to get out of the heated water (the pool is kept at 85 degrees) without being exposed to the elements. IMO, not so great for swiming in the winter time as cold air can freeze water on swim trunks pretty quickly.
The resort is next to a plaza with several shops and restaurants. There wasn't a lot of them open yesterday when we arrived and some have the appearance that they may be seasonal as far as being open. We did enjoy the happy hour bucket of Corona's for $10 and chips and salsa at the little Cantina restaurant last evening. I hope to eat at a few of the restaurants which serve breakfast as well during our stay.
There is a small park with activities such as bunjie cord trampolines, miniture golf, alpine slides, merry go round and scenic chair lift rides that take you to hiking trails next door to the resort. Most seem reasonably priced and we plan taking the chair lifts at least once during our stay. I'm not 100% sure we'll want to do the alpine slide back down.
Overall my first impression is this would be a great ski resort and a decent location to base summertime explorations of northern UT. It appears to be quite the drive to the national parks in southern UT, which is something of a dissapointment to me but, I knew that coming in.
I have begun to put up a photo album of the resort and will be adding pictures throughout the week. The album can be accessed through the owners photo's link on my-vacationclub.com, by clicking the smugmug link in my signature below or you can go to the album directly by clicking this link dougp26364's Photos . I will be adding an album to our Webshots page as well but have yet to start putting up that album. Maybe I'll work on that while getting ready for the day this morning.
