  • Need Recommendations on Choosing Marriott in Utah or Colorado

Next spring, my family would like to go west and we're considering the Marriott resorts in Utah and Colorado.
Which one would YOU recommend for three people who plan to visit the last week of May or the first week in June. Two are AVID GOLFERS.
    Thanks for your help.

    Mountainside, Park City

Carol: My family and I stayed a week at Marriott Mountainside, Park City, Utah the last week in June two years ago. We enjoyed the area, went into Salt Lake City, many of the days, went to the silver mine, also toured the new westgate timeshares, did the outlets right in Park City, went to Olympic Park for a tour, and drove to see Sundance where the film festival occurs. My daughters also went horseback riding right next to Mountainside, and we rode the ski lift to the top of the mountain to see the view. Mountainside is very nice, five or six hot tubs to enjoy too. There are a lot of restuarants located right in Park City to choose from. Debbie

There are many world class golf courses in Park city and the surrounding area. If you want to drive into Salt Lake City you could golf at a different course every day for a week and still have a dozen excellent courses to try. If you are looking for a golf vacation this would be a great place.

My supervisor at work traded her Park City ski week this year and went to Colorado - she was very disappointed with the staff and with the units - says she will never go again - everyone says Park City is a great location - winter and summer.

          Colorado Marriotts

I know that Streamside owners decided not to update the units and Marriott dumped the resort, so they are now managed by VRI.

The funds they received from maintenance fees should have been enough to get those units back up to standards. But Marriott just charges too much for MF's, in my opinion. VRI will get the resort back into shape and for a lot less money.

When the resorts in the Colorado mountains are managed well by an HOA guarding the funds, MF's are about 1/2 price from resorts that are managed by big companies like Marriott and Sheraton. Sandstone Creek at Vail is another resort with sky-high maintenance fees. The management company must be run by a bunch of crooks, in my opinion. We have large townhouse-style units in Summit County, larger than most timeshares, with three levelsof living on the inside, heated single-car garages, full-sized washer and dryer, gas fireplace and a private hot tub on each patio. Our MF's are $440 per year, per week. Sandstone Creek down the road is over double that price. Sure, they have a pool that we do not, but those fees are crazy high! It just proves that an active HOA can make all the difference in costs.

Being active is not something that most Americans care to be. Apathy is expensive.
