  • Lock-Off/out's in Europe - by nortonski

    From another thread....

We're new to the whole timeshare scene & have bought a few resale weeks throughout MVCI Europe.

We have a 3 bed lock-off & II have mentioned that we are not permitted to use the lock-out function.

    1) Is this correct or perhaps a process that we should follow to ensure we can?

    2) If we do get the lock-off accepted I take it we get a 1 & 2 bed?

    3) We own Silver, does this make a difference?

If this is the wrong thread to be asking kindly let me know & if so apologies in advance...

    Thanks

    First, to TS4Ms.....

The info I will give is based on the assumptiom that the unit you own IS a lock-off 3BR...there are a few resorts that have 3BRs that are NOT lock-offs such as Imperial Palms, Orlando - Frenchmen's Cove, STT - The Myrtle Beach one (Oceanwatch,Surfwatch???)

    1) In order to lock-off your unit, you must call Marriott Owner Services, tell them you want to lock-off your unit and pay the $75 fee to do so. You then make your reservations for your 2BR unit and your studio studio unit (only Marriott Grand Chateau locks off into a 2BR and 1BR) - and they don't need to be the same week. You will then be given TWO reservation numbers and that is what you use to deposit with II. II has NOTHING to do with the locking-off of your unit...but will accept your deposit as long as you have 2 resie numbers.

    2) answered above

    3) Since I don't know what resort you own - all I can say is you need to reserve the BEST week in your season for Maximum Trade Power.
Example - I own Gold Season at Marriott Fairway Villas - I usually reserve Easter week as any holiday week is good and II considers week 13&14 as RED weeks////check the II 'color' for the weeks in your season and use this as a guide to 'high demand'...

I checked both the www.vacationclub.com site and the II site and neither have Paris Marriott listed as lock-offs...and a friend just came back from Spain and they were told that ONLY European marriott resort with lock-offs is Marriott's Playa Andaluza • MUZ....
        So I don't think you have a lock-off unit.

However your silver season runs weeks 1-12 and 44-51....I would think that the best weeks to reserve would be 51, then a late March week if Easter falls during that week and then week 47 - Thanksgiving.

I am not familiar with European school holidays but any Holiday time that falls within those silver weeks would be good.
II gives the resort RED all year but this is deceptive,,,,,people would MUCH rather vist in warmer weather then January!
Keep that in mind when you make your reservation.

Also, call II and ask them if they gave 'accomodation certificates' ACs for your resort for 2006 and what weeks....then if you can, reserve one of those weeks thru Marriott.....an AC is a bonus week that can be used for an extra week of travel with certain restrictions....

        Hope this helped....

Thanks for all you help Pat, I'll follow through with II for more info regarding your points raised.

If you take a look at the following page it shows the 3 bed floorplan, indeed Marriott sell the unit as a lock-off. The 1 bed side has it's own front & back door, with lockable internal access.

          http://www.vacationclub.com/common/v...an_3bd_2ba.jpg

The query arose after speaking with II regarding lock-offs & they mentioned that they didnt accept Marriott lock-offs, I didnt qualify this at the time by also asking about US Marriott. We may also be buying Shadow Ridge, which is a two bed lock-off for exchange/rentals.

Thanks again for all your help.

LOL.....sure LOOKS like a lock-off - you need to call Marriott Owners Services right away and clarify this.....your best bet might be to deposit the 2BR with Interval and either use or rent your lock-off.....

Seems to be a bit of a disconnect somewhere between Marriott & II, Marriott say this is a lock-off & that the villa numbers are set that way, ie 1181 & 1181a.

However, speaking with II they say no lock-offs at D'Ile de France...arrgghhh...

Next stage to get written confirmation from Marriott & forward to II, or like you say, deposit the 2 bed & use the lock off for private rental or personal use without the kids.... ho hum...

As Pat said, this has nothing to do with II. Marriott must assign you 2 reservation numbers, one for a 2 bedroom and another for the lockoff. II can't split lockoff up for you, Marriott has to do that. This is how it with done with Marriott lock-offs all over the world.

I understand the mechanism of locking off the accomodation with Marriott, however, II say that they only accept either 2 or 3 beds at D'Ile de France, not the 1 bed.

It may just be the guy I spoke with on the phone waiting to get home after a hard days work.

I'll follow up on Monday with someone different...

                  Thanks folks...

Lee seems to be correct - when you look at II they only offer 2BR and 3BR exchanges into France......

This could be similar to the Royal Resorts in Cancun...II will NOT take the lock-off portion of Royal Mayan and Royal Carribean ut the Royals brokered a deal with II that allows the owners of the Royal islander and Royal Sands to deposit there lock-offs (studios).

Here is the photo (I hope ) of the France 3BR units that Lee linked to....

The lock-off (studio) appears to be on the first floor and shares the balcony with the main unit...Lee can correct me if I am wrong. However it appears to be a classic Marriott Lock-off studio - Lee, in order to be called a 1BR the lock-off unit would need to have a separate living room/kitchen area AND a separate bedroom. The only Marriott so far to have that configuration is the Grand Chateau in Las Vegas.

It is a lock off studio, & is on the ground floor, if you look closely at the floorplan you can see the 2 entrances etc...

I have the documentation which shows inventory etc & stating that it's a lock-off.

The first floor is 1st & 2nd bedrooms.

I understand where you're coming from, & may just be my lack of full understanding regarding II, I guess there's nothing stopping me from locking it off & depositing the 2 bed whilst renting or using the lock off tho.
