Marriott Explorer Collection - Has anyone used points to take a cruise?

Good morning all! Has anyone with Marriott points used them to purchase a cruise through the explorer collection? Every so often I see cruise "sales" with lower points. On the site, most cruises are 13,000 points regardless of cabin class (odd). Any tips on when these sales come up? When you book are the cabin classes different points charges? Any information would be helpful.

Also, can you book with points that would expire before the actual cruise? Not sure how this works.
