How many hotels are affected this year?
73% of the program's properties will remain in Categories 1-4.
63% of the properties remain unchanged.
1% of the properties will decrease by one or more categories.
36% of the properties will increase by one or more categories.

Will there be PointSaver awards for the new Category 9?
Yes, just like every category, PointSaver awards will be available for Category 9 hotels, and will be offered at 40,000 points.

Which hotels are in the new Category 9?
Hotels in Category 9 (45,000 points) are:
      Boston Marriott Long Wharf
Le Merigot, A JW Marriott Beach Hotel & Spa, Santa Monica
      London Marriott Hotel County Hall
      London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square
Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel
      London Marriott Hotel Park Lane
      St. Pancras Renaissance London Hotel
      JW Marriott Essex House
      New York Marriott Marquis
Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square
      Paris Marriott Hotel Champs-Elysees
      Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel
Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe Hotel

Will there be travel packages available for the new Category 9?

Yes, 7-night-stay plus airline miles will be offered for Category 9 hotels.

On May 16, 2013, Marriott Rewards will be implementing changes to which hotels are in which category as part of our annual review. Additionally, there will be a new Category 9, requiring 45,000 points per night.

Are they trying to drive everybody out of the program?

Well, we're certainly getting less and less value with rewards points, that's for sure.

I'm glad that I'm using a rewards certificate for Montreal this summer.....Thinking about trying to book something else before May.

Well I've got like 120K points.
If I wait til next year it probably won't get me one night at the rate they are going.
I guess I need to plan another vacation soon.

This is not the first points dilution since I got my Marriott card. I will not be renewing.

If you can find a cat 6 hotel that you'd like to visit, you can book 4 nights (30,000 a night) and get the 5th night free. After May 16th, many cat 6 will become cat 7 @ 35,000 a night. ...You can reserve a year or so out. If you need to cancel, I think you can extend your certificate for an additional year.

I think 2009 was their last devaluation.

Well wouldn't you know that the one I want to visit is a cat 7.

I'm not really that surprised....Usually, whatever I want is either not available, or more points then I was hoping to use. Lol
