Never say never....but I would not make a purchase now in hopes they will do it.
Buy a Marriott now for personal use, rental or trading traditionally in II.

I am more interested in seeing what happens in the resale DC Points, how restrictive they will be toward resale owners.

My thoughts are that ifthey ever re-open for post 2010 resale weeks, it will only be on the condition of the owner buying an equal amount of DC points directly from Marriott. They have been aggressively offering buy backs to legacy owners (most who inquired but the availability of buy back offers and also to some who have not contacted Marriott inquiring). I have heard that M's goal is to re-acquire about 25% of all legacy units through out all seasons so they won't have to rely on enrolled members for inventory at sold out resorts. It remains to be seen if they will be able to do this.

Sally, how does the buy-back work?

Call the Marriott resale department and ask specifically if they are offering buy backs on the weeks you own. If you own a property that is heavy in the trust already the answer may be no. I think they are making offers on most platinum and gold weeks. I think they are making offers on some silver and bronze. The prices are slightly higher than ebay prices, so not really high but ok. The process takes a fairly long time 2-4 months until you are paid but overall fairly painless. OY has a database of the offers received. They also offer the brokered resale option that is higher but can take forever.
