  • Marriott....Flexchange preference

I spoke with a Marriott representative this morning, both at II, and at Marriott Owner Services.

They both told me that Marriott's are given a 30 day preference to other Marriott properties....even during the Flexchange period.

Don't know how else to confirm this information, but they both seemed pretty sure that that was the case.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Also......not all Marriott's have the same trading power....even during Flexcange.

They come much closer together, however there is still an advantage to a high sort after location, date, and size of unit.

Obviously, if you see it, you can take it.......

      Interesting.....

My understanding was the M to M preference was 21 days and then with the addition of the Horizon Brand - it increased to 24 days.

FlexChange preference has been 3 days in the past.....

Did they say this was a recent change?

Pat.....I did not know what the rules were, so I could not question them on any changes, etc.

It would be good if one or two more people called to try and get a definitive answer.......The reason I called both owner services, and II, is because I know that you can very easily be given incorrect information.

I would like to know for sure.......Are you aware of anyplace these rules may appear in writing?

I believe there are 21 and 24 day preferences in Marriott for standard reservations. I forget why the extra 3-days.

And, I believe it is 3-days for Flexchanges.

Dave M is the expert. I believe he might have it posted as a Sticky on the Tug Marriott board.

Ugh.......I called II back, and asked to speak to a supervisor. I explained that I had been given what I believe is incorrect information....twice, and I really wanted to verify one way or the other, what the facts were. They did not argue with me, they simply told me to hold on.

You are not going to believe what they told me this time..........There is a 21 day preference for M to M. They did not mention anything about 24 days. However, there is NO preference during the flexchange period........Not even 3 days. You still need trading power to see certain resorts, but, no M to M preference.

I am pretty sure that they are wrong, and the information that others have posted is correct......How frustrating is this, my God, why the heck don't these people know their own rules..............

I'm going over to Tug, as BB suggested, and look at what the sticky says.....sheesh!!!

The length of the internal hold is dictated by the lead time to the occupancy dates. The maximum hold is 24 days. However, it can be as few as 3 days [during some part of the flex change period].
Not really sure what that means......It says it can be as few as three days during flex change. Which makes it sound to me like it can possibly be as long as 24.....

The '3' extra days were added when M added the Horizon Brand - this was marketed and sold as a lower priced (income requirements were less), less luxurious but still in the Marriott family TS - the Horizon to Marriott preference did not kick in until day 22-24.

That has since been changed and apparently no new Horizons projects will be built - the are now 'just' Marriotts althought I do not think they have the same 'trade power' as other M's (Ocean point will 'beat' Branson Horizons in a trade test) the have the full 21 (or 24) day preference.

Flex change is 3 days for M to M exchanges...it has been proven over the years by various 'sightings' we have done on TUGand here.

I think I should move thisto the Marriott Board

                  Pat,

I just noticed that this thread was moved to the Marriott Board.

OK.....There is a 21 (possibly 24) day preference for M to M. And, there is a 3 day preference during the flex change period.

Thanks for all the input, and information. I am really happy to finally have an answer to that question..........
