Yes, I understand what you are saying but I wonder WHY you think MDSV-I wound NOT trade into summer Newport Coast????
I believe that winter Palm Springs is very much in demand so in return, that week should trade well.
I know you don't want to travel there in the summer when the kids are out of school
    - but why would you say that you COULDN'T get a summer trade.

Curious minds (okay, ME!) want to know!

To clarify, my frinds and I were able to get 2BR units at Marriott Shadow Ridge, and Westin Mission Hills and 1BR at Desert Springs II for the last week in March, but could only get studio units at Desert Springs I....

        Emmy,

I just read through the chart of all the maintanence fees, and was curious to why Phuket Beach Club was so low. I noticed that it was 2003, however, the other fees didn't seem to increase that much since that point.

I wonder what kind of trader this is, and what they are selling for?

        Phuket Beach Club, 2003 2 bedroom USD366.00

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Pat, I really don't know because we never have asked for exchanges when schools are out. I would ask II, if I were interesting in buying and checking it out. The few exchanges we have made were all very good.

You know how much I loved the MDSV-I but not making the reservations 365 days out to the exact second or it would be gone so we don't own it anymore.

We met a couple who owns there and they told us that they can trade for anything so that may be a secret that few people know about. Not too many people here want to go there every year but people from there want to come to the US. They also told us that no resort is as nice as the one they own and this is why my DH wants to go there and find out how good the snorkeling and diving is too. I heard it is very good.

It may be because there is so much available in the area. II doesn't give the resorts in that area the best trading power. The free use of the Spa helps a lot so it makes that resort the best trader of the Marriott's in Palm Desert. However, if you get a treatment, the Spa is free. Everything else is available to all three resorts.

Late to this, but believe MDS would be a good start. IMO, a January MDS would have no issues going to a July-August NCV as deposit-first. Also, be mindful of Marriott's upcoming move to some sort of points system and/or internal exchange system, which may work very differently than II.

My personal dream team (as a left coast guy) would be 2 MDS Blues, one MDS white, two NCV platinums and a lock-off ski week somewhere (all EY). The ski week and NCV's are guaranteed cash cows and the others lock-off and could likely generate AC's. A NCV plt and a MDS plt would be interchangeable, but I like the coast better than the desert Lots of flexibility, ability to generate AC's/bonus weeks and good capital retention potential. Likely could do the whole deal for under 50K with MF's around 4.5K per annum.

                Have fun!

I havent read the entire thread. so this may have been suggested

I owned Summit Watch, no ROFR, I had a gold lockoff.. EASILY booked 4th of July, got an AC for the 1bd portion..

                  costs are about $5K,

MF's are expensive at $830 or so
still for 3 weeks, not bad

My eyes have been opened up to a whole new world of timeshare portfolio management. You guys are terrific.

I had no idea that effective use of MVCI required such portfolio planning. I looking forward to taking the plunge into the deep end....

                    Thanks.

                      Emmy,

They have the lowest MF's by far, and I never see winter available on II.....Interesting, I wonder what they are going for? I haven't seen many available for sale either.

                      Something to look into.

I'm seeing resale asking prices for Phuket in the 16-18K range. MF's appear to be 500-525 per annum. The resort has seemed reasonable to get into, except around New Years and into mid-late January. It mimics MDS in that regard, IMO. No clue on exchange performance. IIRC, it also will participate in MVCI's new pilot points program.

Since they already survived a psunami, perhaps the resort is "pre-disastered" as well

                          Pat,

Thanks for the info.....It cost more than I was hoping, so I would probably pass on purchasing. I would seldom, if ever travel there......For that price, I could get a good trader, and a location I would enjoy using.

It does seem to be somewhat popular though.....In II, there is no availability from Nov. thru March. I noticed that in the past, and that trend continues. Every once in a while one shows up during the winter months, but that's a rarity.
