I want to sell my marriott week

Hubby and I have decided to sell our marriott week and would like some suggestions on going about doing it. It is a red week with II. We have owned about 6 years, and it has traded well within the marriott timeshares. We own three timeshare weeks and want to cut down to two since our kids will be heading to college soon. I need some advice on how to go about selling. Please help. Thanks for your suggestions. Debbie

First thing I'd do is research comparables on eBay and review Redweek and some of the other listing sites to see what others are asking for similar weeks.

Also, by reviewing eBay ads, you'll get an idea of closing costs and some of the escrow companies commonly used.

Alternatively, you could contact a timeshare broker like Seth Nock (who co-moderates here) and consider listing the unit that way. Just crunch all the numbers, including the value of your time, and see what turns up.

also call Marriott resales to find out what your property would sell for through them, and calculate what you'd be left with after their 40% commission. Sometimes that may still be more than you'd get through other resale channels.

BUT before you list with Marriott, try to get a feel for the likelihood of selling, how many similar weeks they have listed, etc.... Also keep in mind that once they send papers to a prospective buyer, they give the purchaser 30 days to sign the contract and take your week out of the pool for that period of time. You can also list in other places simultaneously, just notify Marriott if you sell elsewhere first.
