  • Ko'Olina Kama'Aina program... Can you get it resale?

Just got back from the Marriott Ko'Olina. We loved it. Can't wait for to get there for an exchange. The interesting thing is that I signed up as a walk on and they put us in with an inhouse sales rep. They had me down as a Summit Watch owner. Wow. I must own it now and I haven't gotten the paperwork yet.

In any event, they have this program called the Kama'Aina program that allows local residents to use resort amenities all year round. Does anyone know if these benefits can be acquired via a resale purchase? If so, I think I'll pick one up.

The only thing I didn't like was the unit floor plan. Marriott went with the 3 hotel room floor plan. Yuck. They build a purpose built timeshare and they don't spend the architecture fees for a modern floor plan.

Otherwise, the lobby area was spectacular. And, I love how they created the articifical lagoons. It makes for really nice beach front space easy swimming. The food at the pool was only average. How disappointing.

The Four Seasons, to contrast, had unbelievable food. Everything was fantastic.

Oh, I forgot. I tried to take pictures, but my camera battery died. I need to re-charge it before I go next time.

      Boca,

I can't give you a Ko'Olina specific answer, but I'm pretty sure on Hilton Head the day priveleges are given to Owners, regardless of how they purchased... why not call Guest Services at Ko-Olina and ask.

fwiw, I would be shocked if the privilege is limited to developer purchases only...

If your bronze SW purchase gets you into the Kama'Aina program, that would be the BEST $1,500 ever spent.

That would be great, but won't work. You have to own at the resort... but Boca, I would expect you'd have to spend a bit more than you did on your SW week..

Thanks Avery. I'll call them to find out.

Anyone know the ROFR for Ko'Olina for an EOY 2br mountainview unit? I'm know how to beat it. I just need to know what it is.

Boca, the artificial lagoons were already there when the Marriott took over this property site. It was built by a Japanese firm, I believe, that went bankrupt. Do you remember the real estate slump when Japan had their bad cycle? Many smart developers took over the best real estate sites.

                Could you elaborate?

I'm trying to find out the rough price at which Marriott will buy back a unit for a 2 br lock off, Every other year unit, mountain view.

It's likely that you'll escape ROFR for such a unit no matter what price you agree upon with the seller. Marriott very rarely exercises its ROFR. And it sometimes exercises at one price today and passes up the right to exercise at a lower price tomorrow.

Marriott apparently exercises primarily when it needs particular inventory. Thus, if you make an offer based on someone's reported ROFR price, you'll almost certainly overpay.
