  • I am really lost !! Need guidance.

    Heres my predicament.

I am Visiting Disney (FL) from November 11-17 2006. I am also considering buying a Marriott (Grande Vista, lock off , platinum) timeshare Resale rather than from Marriott themselves.
Still considering the disadvantage of not being able to gain points if i buy resale. Is the points really woth that much ?

I need accomodation and Disney tickets for this trip.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to maximise my spending power?
    Rent? Buy ?

Most people (including myself) would rather buy resale MGV for $12k and NOT get Marriott points, rather than buy from Marriott for $28k and get points.

If your trip is in 6 weeks...you only have one option...rent! Try posting on this BBS and ask someone to get a unit for you at MGV.

Use AAA to get Disney tix.

You can also call Marriott or Hilton and ask for a Preview Tour that includes 4 nights accomidations for $99. good deal!

        obligation when touring Marriott

I have done the preview tour, and I was not obligated to purchase. I did have to listen to their spiel, but I knew that upfront.
        hope this info helps,

You may as well stay where you want to buy. I suggest you go to Interval International (or if you are not a member find someone who is) and purchase a getaway week for about $300 for your dates which are available at most of the Marriott timeshares in Orlando. You can stay at the MGV or MGR for seven nights for cheap at this time of year. No obligation to buy or to tour. If you go on the timeshare tour you will need to bring your spouse and you can get your 'gift' like disney tickets or whatever they are offering to tour.

If you often travel off-season, I wouldn't bother buying. The weeks listed above are often available.

Thanks for your response. How can i request the preview tour ? I tried their website but i didnt see anything ? Also once i get a preview tour , since i am with my spouse, is it fair to say that if i attend a presentation that i may be able to get the tickets at a discounted price ?

              Thanks in advance !

We have a section here where people can refer other people. A lot of resorts seem to have these package deals.

khemy - do you have a friend or relative who already owns a Marriott TS?
Or a friend who owns another TS that trades thru Interval International?

If you do - they can call Interval International for you and purchase the weeks accomodations for the prices listed below. That way you do not have to take any tours....if you buy a preview package, you must take the tour which is 1 1/2 hours long.

If you buy the listed II getaways at the prices listed no preview tour is needed and you do not arrange it via the getaway. But the Marriott sales department will want to offer you an incentive to take a tour and provide you with a gift....and they will contact you once you get to the resort. I imagine if you do purchase one of the listed II getaways...you can call the resort and ask for the sales department and tell them you are scheduled to stay there on your dates and ask them what the tour incentives are. Be ready to negotiate for more than what they first offer you. That way you can organize your Marriott tour early in your trip as you must complete the tour before they will give you your gift (tickets, $$, certificates....whatever). And you will be able to plan the rest of the trip.

OK this is a real newbie question, but I am not yet a II member.

What are those accomidation packages posted above where you can stay without doing a tour and pay cash?

Are these available during the summer season at good resorts?

This is a great perk that II offers to members and their friends. I love the program but rarely use it because we own so many weeks. Being a Disney member yourself, you get exchanges through II but don't have the ability to log into Interval International? That is a shame, it is one of the big selling points that salespeople use to entice buyers into purchasing.

Since Disney is my favorite vacation destination, I think it is amazing to see Marriotts for as little as $219 a week for a studio that has a king bed and a decent kitchenette and living area. The prices go down as the weeks get closer. It is what sets II apart from RCI, in my opinion. I think II is a much better company than RCI in almost all aspects, but I do love my RCI points.

If you are truly curious to see Getaways on II, I will be happy to set up a temporary login to my account so you can look at the availability, Bill. It is awesome!

Uh......exactly....if you travel off season or shoulder season or can travel with a few weeks notice....there really is no reason to own....just rent at the last minute and getaway sites at II and RCI.
