  • What to expect from a Marriott Presentation ?

    Hi Guys ,

Thanks again to shopgirl for assisting me in getting a gettaway week at the Marriott.

I intend to attend a tour while i am there. I have a couple questions:

    1) How possible is it to get disney tickets discounted ?
    2) Do they do tours on a Sunday ?
    3) Any advice on getting discounts on car rentals ?
    4) Do they have a shuttle to Disney theme Parks ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    1. Call Grande Vistas sales department and ask them what the incentive would be to attend the tour. Usually it is a certain number of points or a particular dollar amount (or Marriott gift checks). This is not a "Is it possibe" situation - you just have to ask and they will tell you.
    2. Call now and schedule the tour at your convenience - they will tell you what days and times they have available,
    3. Subscribe to www.mousesavers.com monthly newsletter - the website has great discounts on many Disney and Orlando activities. I purchase my Disney passes from them.
    4. I don't think so - you can pay to get a ride to the park. Car rental is fairly cheap in Orlando - rent a car at the airport.

Marriott's sales department is very low key, which I appreciated on our one and only Marriott tour. They were so low key, in fact, that the tour was pleasant and the thought of going back for the sport of it was gone. Some of you know what I mean.

You are welcome for the help.

If you are thinking of buying a Marriott to go to Orlando, I would not do it. I would not even buy a resale because there are no cheap weeks to buy anymore. According to Seth Nock, Marriott is stopping weeks from selling too cheaply by exercising their Right of First Refusal.

We own at two good resorts that exchange into Marriott very inexpensively. We can pull three bedrooms with our weeks, plus once you are in II, you have the ability to trade to Orlando whenever you want. You saw the inventory! Availability is always there during off season and even during the summer, though the prices are higher.

Buy a Foxrun week! So many owners are upset about the assessments right now (many are talking about giving away their weeks), but I for one am willing to pay them. We just got back from Disney's Old Key West, where we stayed for two weeks for much less than DVC members pay for fees, let alone their initial cost. It would take 288 points for our little vacation X $80 per point to buy.

Old Key West is as good as any Marriott, if not better, and I loved staying on property. We only filled our gas tank at the end of our stay, after two weeks, and we had a VW beetle convertible. So we spent about $20 on gas for two weeks. Pretty good, huh? That is because we often would take their provided transportation. When we drove, we were close to everything. That is real savings.

If you are interested in Foxrun, even with its $1,500 assessment and the $550 annual fees, just stick around and some deals will present themselves on this site and on TUG.

Have a good time in Orlando in November!

As far as tickets are concerned, we buy annual passes and travel to Disney about six weeks per year, sometimes more (this year will be about 7 weeks), then we skip Disney for about 10-12 months and get annual passes again. It works great for us. We are nearing retirement and always look forward to Disneyworld, for the fun and the climate difference. It is like having a second home for us, all done cheaply.
