Marriott check-in/exchange on monday

After recieving my II directory i noticed Horizons (MHZ) and Cypress Harbour (MCP) are now allowing monday to monday check-in. The week #s for (07) are the same but for (08) they change? If this is correct then would it be safe to say that to reserve a popular week like Easter 08 (march 23rd) for monday to monday wk #12 I'd have to wait 4 days later than thursday to thursday check-in? any thoughts? Sounds to me that monday check-in would only benefit people (or school kids ) that have more than one week off to vacation.

If you plan to exchange your unit, I expect you would be better off reserving 'traditional' check-in days of Fri, Sat, Sun.

That said, one time I exchanged into Cypress Harbor on a Thursday because I was on a 4 day cruise that arrived back in port on Thursday.

If I were an owner that couldn't getaway for a full week but could get a Friday and Monday off, I might want to reserve a Thursday to Thursday check-in.

Just gives you more choices.

Very interesting question, at least for Horizons!

I can't speak to Horizons with confidence, because the Marriott online calendar doesn't show Monday check-in availability. For Cypress Harbour, the Marriott calendar for 2008 shows all weeks starting that weekend (March 23) check-in, including Monday check-in, as being week #12. However, that Monday in 2008 is actually March 24, not March 23.

Thus, if you wanted to reserve any of that weekend's check-in dates (March 20 through March 24) for Cypress Harbour, you could call as early as March 20, 2007 to make your reservation.

For Horizons, the Marriott calendar shows that the other check-in dates for the dates adjacent to that Monday (March 24) are all in week 12, the same week you refer to. Thus, it would appear that the date you would call would still be March 20, 2007.

However, I'll assume that you are correct for Horizons and that (a) Horizons allows Monday check-ins and (b) the Monday check-in (March 24) for the week you are asking about is in the following timeshare week from the week for March 20, 21, 22 and 23 check-ins.

Marriott's rule - per the MVCI website and in correspondence to owners about two years ago - is as follows:

If you are a single-week Owner, you may make reservations beginning 12 months prior to the first check-in day of your desired week. For example, you may make your reservation request as early as January 4, 2007 to request an arrival date of January 4, 5 or 6, 2008.

Thus, if what you state is accurate, I believe all weeks for that year would have the same situation. In that case, it would appear that you would probably call 12 months before the first check-in date of Monday, no matter what week of the year or what check-in day of the week you are trying to reserve. Thus, the call-in dates would be seven days apart, not four.

But maybe not! The pertinent question, which I have not seen addressed anywhere, is whether “week” - for purposes of calling in for a reservation - refers to the week # of the year or whether all check-in dates sharing or adjacent to a common weekend are considered to be the same week. You would want to be sure that you aren’t calling four days too late!

This is a new one for me. Thus, I would definitely call Marriott, if you plan to reserve such a week.

Also, be sure you are working with the Marriott calendar, not the II calendar or some other timeshare calendar, many of which differ from Marriott's calendar.
