just got off the phone getting what I thought was a simple problem fixed only to find out the problem was much worse than it appeared.
On March 8th I had Locked off my 3 bedroom MGC unit. I requested the master suite 2 bedroom unit for usage from March 7th-March 14th 2008 and that the 1 bedroom unit be deposited with the same dates. I received confirmation E-mails for both reservations.
When I went to check my online I.I. account, I noticed that the reservation dates for my one bedroom unit had been changed to January 5th-January 12th. As we were leaving on Vacation in the next couple of days and I was busy putting in extra hours at work, I elected to deal with this minor issue when we got home. I wasn't to concerned about it as I was planning on using that week as an internal Marriott exchange into either Hilton Head Island for May of '08 or Lake Tahoe for July of '08. I was really figuring on going with Hilton Head and not to worried about exchange power as I think that the times I was looking for in Hilton Head is still gold season.
I was concerned that an online deposit date could just be arbitarily changed without my permisson which promited me to call. If this was the case, I was no longer going to LO and deposit online through Marriott's web site anymore.
What actually happened was far worse than I had thought. The Marriott representative reviewed the file and told me that all they could do would be to call I.I. to see if they would accept the corrected deposit date. When she came back on the phone, what had been deposited, according to I.I., was the master suite, leaving me with the one bedroom LO unit for personal usage. Marriott was able to correct this and show that I had reserved my master suite for personal use and corrected the deposit to the one bedroom LO unit and corrected the reservation dates.
The Marriott rep. was unable to fully explain how all this had occured when it was clear this was not my intention but said there seemed to be a coding issue between some of Marriott's 3 bedroom units and I.I. She explained that since this LO was in fact a full 1 bedroom unit and not the typical studio, it seemed to be causing issues. I'm now thinking that I.I. reads a one bedroom LO unit as the master suite similar to what it would be if a 2 bedroom unit had beened LO'd but, since it was a 1 bedroom unit, they thought it WAS the master suite. Online when I looked at the deposit it did clearly show a 1 bedroom sleeps 4 and not the 2 bedroom unit. Perhaps this was just a matter of symantics with the term "master suite."
On the other hand this could have been a major problem had I gone to check into what I believed to be a confirmed reservation for our two bedroom unit, only to learn a mistake had been made a year ago both with what unit I had held and the date I had reserved. I can just imaging showing up to enjoy our two bedroom master suite, only to learn that it had been deposited in error for exchange and that the one bedroom unit had been reserved for a different week which had passed two months before.
I learned an important lesson with my MGC week. From now on, I'll CALL Marriott to make the arrangements and make certain it is understood that I'm reserving for usage the master suite and depositing only the one bedroom unit, unless of course we decide to use that portion later in the year for ourselves.
