I am just annoyed that there is any fee at all for a basic service. There should be no fee to sit under a palapa - will they start charging a fee to use a lounge chair at the pool or beach or sit on a sofa in the lobby?

I think the original thought was maybe by charging peple it would cut down on complaints about waiting in line for a palapa - but it has snowballed into something else. And Marriott is generating a lot of ill will toward a nice resort.
It really is a shame. JHMO
I agree completely....It seems to be making a bad situation, even worse.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

      Thanks Dave!!!

I haven't been to any of the Hawaii resorts, and, was wondering if anyone knew what the situation is there?

The fee is $10 for half a day in the first 2 rows and $5 for the back rows.

I must say that I did receive a nice response from the VP of the Board. He is definitely under the imrpession that this appeals to most owners. Of course, in fairness to the powers that be, they are probably in general receiving a positive response because most of the people coming down are first seeing the enlarged beachfront and are likely pleased in general, and also aren't assessing the situation at the height of the season there.

That said, Jim assured me he would consider sentiment expressed to him by e-mail over the next few months and bring that correspondence to everyone's attention at their next meeting.

So- without sounding like I am standing on a soapbox- if you aren't happy with the new policy, don't complain here. E-mail the members of the BOD and let them know. At least from Jim's response, to his credit, he appears responsive to input. Let him (and the others) know how you feel.

Although it migh have changed subsequently, at Ko'Olina it was a bit strange IMHO when we were there last July. One lagoon (I think it was #3) had lots of lounges, but if you wanted shade you really had to bring them back under the palm trees. My family liked sitting at the beach at Aruba much better becasue of the convenience of the palapas. They also had wooden chaises with attached half moon cabanas, $24 to rent a double one for half the day I believe.

Lagoon #2 (I think that was the one) had several palapas, but no chaises. #1 and 4 had neither, so you needed to have a beach blanket or something.

I assume with time they will be adding to the amenities of the lagoons, if they haven't started to already.
