  • Marriott Maui Ocean Club Island View?

I was lucky enough to get the family into the MOC this month in a one-bedroom Island View....it was a birthday/anniversary gift from a friend (Marriott Owner) who exchanged in via II. Are we low on the totem pole regarding requests?

What exactly is Island View? It there a particular building and/or unit and/or floor I should request? What can we expect? What about all the construction?

We were there last summer and our "Ocean View" unit overlooked the parking lot, and dumpsters. I tried like the dickens to get moved, to no avail. We were told that room assignments are prioritized based on the date the owner made the original reservation. So if what you picked up was a late deposit, there's a chance it was only recently reserved, but hard to tell since it could also have been a cancellation.

I'm guessing Island View faces the other way, toward the new tower that should be just about done by now. Hopefully an owner can jump in and give you some more details.

Regardless of unit location, the resort is in a great spot on Ka'anapali Beach, so you're in for a great trip.

Well I went to the MOC today and was told that the Island View rooms are in the middle building and face the back. That is fine as the view isn't too bad except straight down it looks like the service area is there so it may get noisy and the rooms don't go very high. Not expecting much but am happy to be in Maui and at the MOC...will report later.

Island Views are in the back of the 'Maui' wing and sure enough the service road noise was an issue. They compress the trash and compress and wrap the cardboard at around 3 a.m. most mornings. The worst noise was when they were loading and unloading scuba tanks around 4 a.m. I called one of the managers and they said the loading and unloading should not be happening but that their contractors broke the rules. They also said the trash & recycling compacting and wrapping is scheduled as needed for that time...not sure why they just can't do it during the day.

The balcony was not much to speak of and the trash smelled during the heat of the day so we kept the windows closed. The view was just fine and we caught beautiful rainbows several times over the island when we were in the room.

Like I said before we were happy to be at the MOC especially at the last minute like that. The property is nice and the converted hotel rooms upheld the Marriott standard....of course the refrigerator was too small and no burners. The beach out front is not much to speak of especially at high tide and the water is murky on the shallow reef and the snorkeling is not so good. There was a nice surf break so we were able to boogie board some decent swell.

We would definitely stay again but avoid the Island View if at all possible. There are only 1 BR's with Island View so if you get a 2 BR you will at least get a minimum of a garden view. You can ask II what the view is and they can tell you the code. Also the Marriott reservation number is on the exchange and you can always call them and ask what the view category location of the unit will be.

We tried to move but they were not flexible at all....we were told it was all determined by the unit view deposited and the timing the exchange was made and then put into the system. The earlier the better assignment.

As far as construction noise goes when we were at the Westin Hotel Resort just down the path we heard some really loud banging as they were tearing out the parking lot and preparing for the pile driving. We were told the the pile driving would start in September after the summer busy season was over and that it would be very very loud.

I will post more as I remember and get time.

John, was this a last minute exchange or a promo package? What I found strange is that the units have a dish washer but no stove. If you hardly can cook anything, why do you need a dish washer? They should have put in a washer and dryer instead so you can travel light.

It was an II exchange made by a Marriott member who gave it to us as a gift. We had a guest certificate.

Actually we did need that dishwasher as we all ate breakfast and used the microwave several times.

I agree with the washer/dryer. That is a great feature and we still did pack light since we had a washer/dryer in unit at the Kahana Falls at the beginning and middle of our trip.
