  • Please compare and contrast: Ocean Pointe or Grande Ocean Summer?

I just realized that Ocean Pointe Summer weeks are Gold season and much cheaper than a Grande Ocean Summer week because Grande Ocean Summer weeks are Platinum. So, I'm giving an Ocean Pointe purchase some thought for the moment.

What does a Grande Ocean Summer week experience have to offer that an Ocean Pointe week does not?

The main thing off the top of my head and this applies exclusively to me and or others similarly situated is that I can drive the family to Grande Ocean, but will have to fly the family AND rent a car if we choose to visit Ocean Pointe - so this will kill any upfront savings in short order. And this would be true for any time of the year, not just Summer. Are there other considerations?

you want to go to Florida in the hotest and most humdity time.

It could easily be 100 degree your entire trip.

Summer in Palm beach can be very, very hot.

Grande Ocean is in SC and much more pleasant in the summer.

I pretty certain a week at GO trades better than a week at OP at any time with II.

There does not seem to be a huge difference in air temp.

These are the averages as per Weather.com:

      June
      • West Palm Beach 89
      • Hilton Head 85
      July
      • West Palm Beach 90
      • Hilton Head 88
      August
      • West Palm Beach 90
      • Hilton Head 87

THAT is a popular misconception of S. Fl in the summer. It rarely hits 100 degree's in the summer. In fact, there use to be a hotel owner that had a gimmick of telling customers that any day the temps went above 100 degree's (maybe it was lower) their room was free for that day. For the most part S. Florida is actually COOLER than my summer time temps here in Wichita, KS. I suspect the humidity is not nearly as bad with the ocean breeze's coming off the Atlantic ocean.

Ocean Pointe offers ocean views on all units (lower floors will be blocked by folage). All units are lock out units. In the winter months swimming in the ocean is always an option. IMO, there is never a bad season at OP as the temps are always pleasant. We own in Silver season, go in either Nov. or Dec. every year, swim in the ocean every year and are comfortable wearing short's and short sleeve shirts pretty much anytime of the day or night.

I don't doubt the GO has very good trading power but I doubt that it would out trade OP in every season. Especially since Plat. season owners at OP have a very high occupancy rating and silver season weather is extremely mild/warm.

Here are my pics of Ocean Pointe

And here is weather.com's current 10 day forcast. Notice the high temps barely break 90!

and a list of average high's and low's throughout the year from Weather.com. Average high temp is in bold. A record HIGH temp of 101 was recorded in 1942. It's been a LONG time since Riviera Beach, where Ocean Point is located, has seen a temp of 101 degrees let alone risking every day of your vacation with temps in excess of 100 degree's.

Doug is right on. For 35 years we visited our family in SE FL (Hollywood) during the summer (when we had off. It is not hot like people think (but its not exactly cool, either).

My cousin just moved to Alva - West of Ft Meyers, and we have been tracking her temps every day since end of May. It hasn't been above 92 or 93 F yet.....but she is about 20 miles inland and away from the Gulf.

WE also track Hollywood Beach, and it has rarely gone above 90 F. (yet).

But you need to know that going several miles inland, temps do go higher....and humidity seems a constant high near the Everglades.

At night, the temps do not go down so much like in the north. It could be 95 F in NJ, but at night it might still get down to around the low 70s. That doesn't seem to happen in summer in Florida....the nights don't seem to get cool.

We check the weather underground. Oh....and if you think a swim in the Florida ocean or Gulf in the summer would be refreshing.....well.....its pretty warm water. And so are the pools

Because of the gulf stream being as close as it gets to the American shoreline, the water remains at a relatively warm temperature all year round. In December when we tend to go water temps are still in the 70's. I'm not certain what they are in the summer time.

I know what they are in the summer....around ft lauderdale south and up to ft meyers...... and thats in the 80sF Usually high 80sF. (Even like that for most of Fl & up to NC. It is still in the low 70sF off the N. NJ coast right now

In Hollywood, if you shave your legs, you miss all the little white fish ( about 2 inches) trying to get those 'worms' off your skin.

The water is beariful clear, but not at all refreshing. Good for the old folks with arthritus. The beaches are usually very slow slant ( way out to get very deep) and the waves are little like in a lake. That is, until those storms decide to use that real warm water to make the winds.

I think I will miss the trees.

The aerial photo of Ocean Pointe is sad - shoulder to shoulder houses and few trees. Hilton Head Island is very lush and green. I think I'll miss the trees the most.

Does anyone like the Ocean Pointe neighborhood?

The neighborhood around OP is an older but well kept neighborhood. It is not devoid of tree's but has many mature palm tree's in everyone's yard. Within walking distance is the Sailfish Marina which has a nice convenience store and souvenier shop, a very attractive restauant with glass door walls for a great view of the marina and Lake Worth and decnet food. A little ways up the road on Singer Island is a lush State Park that we have yet to go through.

Mostly though it is an urban environment with all of a city's major trappings of grocery stores, shopping malls, major discount stores, theaters and restaurants. So I guess if you're looking for nature to envelope you, this isn't necessarily going to be your resort

It depend on what your family need are. OP has lockoff so you get more bang for the buck and it does not trade as well as Grande Ocean(platinum). I own both places and they are both different. Grande Ocean platinum alot more money only 2 bedroom and climate about the same. The units are larger at Grande Ocean and MF is less but if summer is the only time you would travel then OP would be the best value. Summer is gold at OP but it is Platinum at Beachplace towers in Fort Lauderdale. Even though it is a gold unit it still will trade good, just not as good as Grande Ocean(platinum). The both will give you a bonus week. Hope that helps.
