  • Marriott Timber Lodge, South Lake Tahoe, CA - Review

This is not exactly a full review, rather a thread we can discuss about the Timber Lodge. I will write a full review when I get back from here.

I own WorldMark credits, and using which we got a flexchange for Marriott's Timber Lodge in beautiful South Lake Tahoe. Checked in last night. The casinos are just a few steps away and the gondola for Heavenly ski resort is right outside the resort. Marriott's Grand Residence is on the other side of the Heavenly gondola.

They have free valet parking, but the parking costs $17 per day if you choose to park at the resort. This is a very busy place. The front lobby etc. are always buzzing with activities. Minimum 2 people manage the concierge desk.

The "Fire & Ice" restaurant is on-site, and looks like a really fun place.

The resort has a very large heated pool (open during Winter) and 3 or 4 hot tubs. The last of the buildings is being completed, but we haven't noticed any construction noise (may be because we are farthest away from that building.)

We are staying in a 1BR unit with full kitchen. Our unit has the view of the driveway, and since we are on the 2nd floor, the over hanging over the driveway blocks any view we may have of the lake. (Note to self, next time ask for a unit that is higher up!)

The unit quality (furnishings etc.) is somewhere between that of a higher end WorldMark unit and that at the FSA. There is free WiFi in the unit. I think we may also have wired internet available in the unit.

Shopping (including Raley's super market) is available just outside the resort.

I have taken several pictures, but left the card reader at home, so it may be a while before I can share the pics.

Although it is just a few days to Thanksgiving Lake Tahoe are has no snow! We see minuscule amounts of snow on the higher peaks. It doesn't look like there would be any snow even for Thanksgiving.

This is a fantastic resort compared to even WM South Shore. I would highly recommend exchanging to the Timber Lodge or Grand Residence, especially during snow season!

If you don't use Marriott's $17/day parking - where would you park?
There didn't seem to be many other options right near the resort.

I stayed at the Worldmark Resort at Southshore in Sept.
REALLY enjoyed that location - more then I would have liked staying in the 'downtown' area where the Marriott is - except if I was going during ski season. For skiing, the Marriott location can not be beat!

Looking forward to seeing your pictures

I guess you could park in one of the garages at the casinos.

REALY enjoyed that location - more then I would have liked staying in the 'downtown' area where the Marriott is -

I concur. The WorldMark resort near Zephyr Cove/ Nevada Beach is away from all the casinos and the tourists but the location is really nice.

      Yes.

LOL, so I take it you are using Marriott's parking ?????

As posted OY, we also enjoyed the Harrah's Buffet - but enjoyed the bar/lounge at Harvey's for beautiful sunsets.

Yes. Didn't want to deal with having to park somewhere else.

I will have to check this out. I have been to Harvey's numerous times, but don't remember ever going to their lounge. Since the weather is not bad we have been walking all over, and a sunset at the lake is far nicer than watching it from lounge, IMHO

We drove past the new Sunterra Resort on the California side- this also looks like a nice property - and it is closer to your (and mine ) favorite Thai restaurant - Orchid something???

What are your plans for Thanksgiving dinner?
Cooking at 'home' or going out?

The Sunterra "Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort" looks like a very nice property, righ ton the water, however the surrounding area is not as nice as that of the Marriotts.

The name of the restaurant is "Orchids Thai Cuisine" We hope to go there for dinner tonight, or just for their ginger ice cream. It is close to the "Y", so you are right, the Sunterra resort is about a mile closer

Last night the fire alarm went off around 2. Although it was a false alarm, we did have to get out and stand in the cold for a few minutes... (I think the alarm went off because of some smoke coming from a motel fire in the neighborhood...)

At this resort there are so many activities for children. At 10 this morning, they are serving hot cider at the Grand Residence, so will be heading that way to check that out.

Thanks Pat. I hope to take some pictures of the area surrounding the Sunterra resort.

It is Monday night. We are back home after our 3 nights stay at Marriott Timber Lodge. We have a few commitments at home during the next two days, and we will complete that and head back to Lake Tahoe.

I realized this resort is a winner when my wife easily agreed to head back to the Sierras even though we have already stayed at this place for 3 nights. (She usually gets bored with places, and would complain if there isn't a lot to do at a resort/destination.) It is a very beautiful resort with very friendly staff.

Here are some of the pictures of the resort and surrounding area.

On Sunday we drove upto Cave Rock. Here is the view from the Vista Point near Cave Rock.

Thanks Angela and Pat. We did turn on the fireplace for a little bit one day, realized we didn't need it. The temperatures were mild most days. There is no snow!

We are back at the TL for Wed and Thursday, and we are expecting no snow, but mild temps only.
