Here is my review!
During Thanksgiving week we stayed in a 1BR unit at Marriott's Timber Lodge at Lake Tahoe. It was a FleXchange through II.
We arrived at 6 on Friday, the check-in day, and found the resort to be buzzing with activity. When we drove in, the valet folks asked us to leave the car and keys at the valet area and requested us to complete the check-in process.
Check-in was a easy, and the lady at the counter quickly went over the directions to our unit, the pool and exercise area. We were also given a hospitality package containing coffee packets, shampoo, toothpaste, dishwasher soap, laundry soap, disposable razors etc.
Once we received the keys to our unit, we walked to the car and had one of the bell people unload the car for us. A short time after settling in our unit we received a call from the bell desk asking whether it is OK to bring our luggage. By that time we already got a feel of how courteous and attentive the staff would be through out our stay.
Our 1 BR unit had a full kitchen containing granite counter top, a full oven, standard sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and a full electric range. The dining table had space for 6. The unit also had a washer and dryer. The living area had a sofa bed, a gas fireplace, DVD player and a TV (non flat screen, but sufficient.) There was no CD player, however the DVD player would recognize CDs containing regular and MP3 format. I guess you are out of luck if you needed to listen to FM radio! The bedroom had a king bed, a TV, and a alarm/clock radio, and a jetted tub.
Free WiFi is available in our units so we were able to use our laptops and browse the web log into work as needed. The connection had ample speed. For those of us with no notebook computers, there is a computer (with a printer attached) available in the lobby. It costs $0.35 per minute of use.
The property and unit are very very clean and the staff very helpful. On Mondays there is free continental breakfast meeting where local vendors meet guests and talk about various activities available. For the kids the "MAZE" (Marriott Activity Zone Experience) has activities through out the week that include arts and crafts, family movie night, Wii competition, bingo, nature walk, and kids night out (off property.) Some of the programs geared towards the adults include Taste of Tahoe social hour on Sundays at the Fire and Ice restaurant accessible directly from the resort.
The resort is a few minutes walk from the casinos at South Lake Tahoe and the lake. The Heavenly gondola can be accessed from the South entrance to the lobby. Fire and Ice restaurant, Cecil's Steak and Brew house etc. are just next to the resort. Timber Lodge has a large pool and several hot tubs, as well as a well-equipped exercise room.
Parking on-site is supposed to cost $17 per day for guests and free for owners.
We encountered mostly families spending holiday at this resort, however only a handful of kids seem to take advantage of all the activities being offered.
The resort is located ideally near most of the attractions of South Lake Tahoe, and is served by a group very enthusiastic service professionals. I won't hesitate to come back for another week of R&R to this wonderful destination.
