  • Question no 2 - Reservation System

    Hi,

I recently learned that owners of multiple Marriott weeks are able to reserve 13 months in advance instead of 12 months for single week owners. As a single week owner, I have some questions about the 13 month reservation.

    1) If one week was purchased through Marriott, can a second week be purchased resale and the 13 month reservation period still apply?

    2) If one week is a winter ski week and the other is say a summer beach week, can the 13 month reservation still apply to both or do you have to book back to back weeks which wouldn't make sense in that case?

I can't believe we've owned the timeshare for so long and there is so much information we didn't know about. So I really appreciate the help here.

    Hello and welcome to TS4M's!

I understand your frustration but most of what you want to know is within the posts here! Read as many as you can and you will still probably have more questions so ask away...

I will try to answer your questions and if I get any of it wrong someone here will kindly correct me!!!

1 - Answer) If you have one purchased retail and another resale you can use the 13 month reservation option.

2 - Answer) If your ownership periods do not overlap at your two resorts then you can not use the 13 month reservation option. The reason they instituted the 13 month rule was to allow for consecutive or concurrent week reservations.

If you own a resort that is 52 weeks platinum (like our TS in Hawaii ) then anything you buy will be able to let you get in on the 13 month reservation option. Your only limitation on your reservations for each will be the season in which the second TS is floating in.

    Hope this makes sense...

Just to add a little to the above: what some people have done, to take advantage of the 13 month rule, is to buy a cheap off season week which coincides with the reservation period of their hard-to-reserve week. For example- if you are trying to nab a prime ski week, get a cheap off season beach week (or vice versa). Of course, you still incurMF's on the second unit, so unless you have the flexibility of utilizing Flexchange trades, be careful that whatever you buy has enough trade power to be useful because otherwise those MF's may make it regrettable.

One other thing to remember is that Marriott only allows up to 50% of the inventory to be reserved 13 months in advance. Now that doesn't mean that ony half of any one particular week will always be available. Only that 50% of the inventory of any one season will be available. So a popular holiday week could still be sold out 13 months in advance if I'm understanding the system correctly.

For us, it's not worth owning two weeks so we can book them consecutively just to get one particular week reserved.

To utilize the 13 week reservation option, you must be booking both your weeks consecutivly or concurently.

That is not my understanding. I believe that the 50% limit on inventory available 13 months out is applied on a week by week basis, not on a season by season basis.

I agree with Rubin - it is a week by week basis - there will always be 50% of that weeks inventory available at the 12 month mark.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I agree that it is on a week by week basis, however, not a day by day basis.

So if I am right, if you are trying for a particular day of check-in at 12 months that day may not be available.

50% of the available check-ins are open for reservations at the 13 month mark and 50% are reserved for the 12 month mark. You may not be able to get the check-in date you want at 12 months out, but half of the reservations first became available at that point (i.e. 50% of the Friday check-ins are saved, 50% of the Sat. and 50% of the Sunday ones).

That is what I thought as well, though I was not sure since have heard this stated both ways.
