  • Marriott Cancun ?

I've heard that Marriott is currently building a new timeshare resort in Cancun. Haven't seen anything on it other than what I heard from a Marriott source. Anyone have any information ?

There has been talk about a Cancun Marriott, for a while. Not sure what the latest is, tho. Others will know more. I'm pretty sure that I read that it was a go. I hope so.

From what I heard construction is underway but I can't remember the name of the resort that it is replacing.

I think it's the old Occidental Grande site, and there may even be another site, as well. I think Marriott also purchased property on the beach, down by bullring, and may be building one there, as well.

          Marriott Cancun

I heard the same rumor from our sales rep in Myrtle Beach (she is interested in transferring once the property is up and running). I would expect that the TS is adjacent to either the Marriott or the JW Marriott in Cancun as this seems to be the way things are going with the company (positioning the TS properties adjacent to full service properties). I like the strategy - it give one more options for dinners, pools, etc. I'll inquire and see what the word is.

This sounds great! Question--is it normal for Marriott not to publicize a new resort? Seems like the pre-construction sales opportunities are sent out quickly.

As Angela said, the first one will be at the old Occidental Grande site in Cancun, between the Sheraton and the Police Station. That's a ways down from the Marriott hotel.

There is talk of a second one downtown in the future.

At one time, Marriott had hoped to convert the Casa magna Marriott into TS units...but alas, it is not to be.

This is a real puzzle to me. In March we went by the old Occidental Grande and there is NO activity there.
I sent Dave M a translation of an article from the local Cancun paper over a year ago and he was never able to verify the info in it...that a Marriott timeshare was slated to be built downtown near the bullring. It did not seem plausible to me that they would put a major timeshare in an area without a beach.

Well, powere came back on late last week, water service restored yesterday, and still waiting on new telephone lines to be run. The clean-up and services restoration has been amazing. The Militay here has been doing the clean-up and security and they have done a fantastic job. Here is link to pictures of Wilma's aftermath. These only paint a limited picture of the damages, but they are a schocking reality check on the power of thiws storm
