  • What am I doing wrong ?

Last year we had great difficulty getting into our Home resort (we were looking for 2 consecetive weeks in June .)
So this year we tried a different route (we own 3 weeks in Marbella Beach Club ..a silver and 2 gold).
Last Sept I rang II and agreed to deposit the silver and a gold in exhange for 2 weeks in a choice of 8 locations across Europe any time in Sept 08.
    Nothing !
We did have one offer for one week last Jan(which we turned down within the 24 hour period ...not knowing that the whole booking would go to the end of the line ..ooch )
Anyway the resort rates in the top 10 by Marriott..could it be its too higly rated !
(So frustrating ...each year I go through the the "sell " debate. with myself)
    Thanks G

Garry.....What weeks are considered silver, and gold?

I'm not familiar with the deal that II offered you regarding the 8 resorts across Europe for Sept. If I were you, I'd give them a call, and ask them what's happening with your request.

What weeks are considered Silver, and Gold? Isn't June Platinum season? If so, that's what's causing the difficulty.

Normally, if you own at a particular resort, you do get a slight advantage over non-owners, toward exchanging back in. However, it is slight, and you are still in line, after all those that would have a stronger trader.

Ahead of your request would be all those with a Platinum ownership in your home resort, as well as any other Platinum ownership Marriott considered to be on-par, or better than your resort. You will probably have a hard time trading a silver/gold for platinum week, especially 2 consecutive weeks.

Good luck tho, I hope you get it.

In the future, I'd suggest a request-first deposit strategy.... that way, if the request doesn't get filled, you retain control of the interval, and you can employ other methods (direct exchange, rent swap, etc) in the interim if you choose.

We have had success doing intra-resort inter-season request-first uptrades at NCV (Newport Coast) which is notorious for its hard to get summer season. YMMV...

        Thanks Pat for the calendar.

It looks like there are only 3 gold weeks available in June, and about 7 in April, and May. Therefore, everyone who owns gold will most likely be fighting for those same weeks, especially since Mem Day & July 4th are Gold Holiday weeks. It will be difficult getting 2 consecutive weeks, out of the top 3 weeks, on an on going basis.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Thanks all... but with a bill of $3,000 for my 3 weeks each year its all too much . Can book almost anywhere in Europe in minutes and not have to wait for months. So will offload my 3 weeks as soon as possible ..any good companies to recommend ?
          Maybe Ebay...
A pity because to us Marriott are the greatest...but as mentioned a wait of 4 months from II is much too much .
          Thanks G

Marriott's Marbella Beach Resort, Marbella, Spain, Europe Timeshare Resort - RedWeek.com

Be sure to look at the rentals....rent-swapping is a great alternative. The gold weeks at MMB do pretty good...

Garry, I am sorry to hear of your troubles exchanging. I have been quite successful as has Angela and I think Pat.

I used to own 2 gold Marriott weeks at Fairway Villas - and I have a friend who owns a Platinum week there.
The difference in trade power was unbelievable (to me) - the gold weeks were REALLY not good - and because of the Marriott quality, it filtered out many resorts that would have been okay for me.

Here is the link to my 'lemons' advice

After reading your post, I wonder if because you are looking to travel in Europe, the Marriott quality filter is really hurting you.
I see many more TS in Europe with my non-Marriott weeks then I do with Marriott.

I have been lucky with Redweek but be prepared to take a big hit on price - have you considered renting your weeks to cover costs and pay for the rentals you want in Europe - and then use your remaining weeks for Mar to Mar trades

Thanks all...so will give Redweek a try . Just be sure I know what i am doing..
1 I reserve the best weeks in the season.(presume has to be 09 at this stage )
                2 Fix a price and advertise .

3 When I am about to do a deal , I ask Marriott to add the renter to my booking .

                More to be done ?

                Thanks all

                  1. yes, unless you have undeposited 2008 weeks you want to try and rent
                  2. look around first - Google your resort name and 'rental' and see what u see....go to Redweek.com, myresortnetwork.com, bidshare.com...you will see a bunch of sites - and price yourself competitively
Advertise - don't forget Craig's List - FREE and you can advertise in several cities like NY and also Europe??? if they have that category.
They only allow 1 posting per property but from what I have heard - you can write up several different ads and titles and post them in several rental sections. I have been successful with Redweek and Craig's List.
                  3. after you have signed a rental agreement and have gotten full payment, you will ask Marriott to add the persons name to the reservation - and email the new confirmation to your renters

Unless you can get the week(s) back, which is unlikely as they would probably already have been taken.

Yup....I believe once you have deposited into II, you are bound by their rules.

Once you deposit with II, you have given up the 'use' of that week to them - and u can not rent to strangers anything you exchange for.

(I say this because you can accept reimbursement of exchange fees and guest certificate costs from a 'friend')

You will have to wait until you reserve your 2009 weeks to rent them.

And just another thought - I have recently read that DAE has lots of European exchanges available.....maybe you should join (for free) and see what they have available - this might be a better choice of exchange company for your travel needs.

                            Correct.

Once you have deposited with II, you no longer control the use of that week. The only thing you have is the right to whatever week you can obtain as an exchange.

                              But ..but

just to recall...deposited my 2 weeks with II and requested 10 locations in Europe. Since last Sept there were no replies to my requests ..until 3 weeks ago they rang and offered 2 weeks in my home resort in my own season ! I accepted because I feared nothing was going to become available.
So I ended up paying an exchange fee to arrive back in my own resort (which under Marriott rules would /should not cost anything !).
All confusing...but because I choose II ...it seems I cannot rent in 2008.
