  • MMC Silver

I'm in the process of closing on a MMC silver that was practically free. I really love this resort and I plan on trading back spring or fall EOY to take advantage of the free golf that comes with ownership.

M to M experts - Angela, Pat, etc. - what do you think my chances are for getting some decent exchanges on the off years? I'm no longer tied to the school calendar, but I do like to plan ahead.

I own two MFV Platinum weeks that I always use, so I have no experience exchanging within the Marriott preference period. Do you suggest I just try for an exchange and see if it hits? Any other tips?

    Thanks!

    Maria,

MMC silver seems to run week 1 - 8.....Not the best time to be in Williamsburg, but you may do OK if you can bank week 7, President's Week. My second choice would probably be week 8. Isn't that a "free" golf resort?

MFV Platinum.....I also own here, and have found this to be a very good trader. I've gotten every request I've ever made with this resort. BTW, they were all for other Platinum dates, and normally difficult locations, such as Spain, HH, etc.

I try and get July 4th week to bank, and about 1/2 the time, am successful. If not, I try for any July week. Truth is, May - Sept will trade well. I like Memorial Day, at that location, for myself. If Easter is in April, Easter may be OK, too.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Yes, the free golf was one of my incentives and I do plan on using the resort at least EOY.

On the trading years, my first choice will be to book President's Week, if that's unavailable, MLK weekend in January. Any tips on M to M exchanges with a marginal week? Is it too optomistic to dream of a shoulder season trade into one of the Marriott's in Spain, Aruba, Hawaii?

I would think that you have a very good chance of getting shoulder weeks in those places........Aruba in May is one of the easiest months to get, and I love Aruba, in May. The weather is great, and no crowds. Just enough people around to make it fun.

Nov and March in Spain, are nice months, and not too difficult to get, Maybe even April.......BTW, with the current situation with the Caribbean, and Europe, your chances are much better than usual. Put in your request, right away, and go for it. You never know what might just show up in your account.

          Maria, congrats on the purchase!
I know u r a planner so by thinking ahead and requesting 13-14 months ahead, you will be successful.

Spain in May and October, Aruba in May,June Sept-Nov.

In fact, I would put a request in for MFV 14 months ahead for the same week u have a reservation....see if you get a match using the silver week and then take the MFV week and deposit it in II - it will be a SUPER trader plus get an accommodation certificate from II for another weeks vacation

WOW - Pat, now that's the way to play the game! Angela, it's very encouraging to get your educated opinion.

Prior to selling, the previous owner reserved President's Week 2009 and deposited it into his II account. If Marriott or II can't transfer it to my II account, he will put in a trade request for me. The deed was sent for recording the last week in June, so I'm guessing it will be at least another 2 months before it comes back and Marriott recognizes me as an owner. I'll sit tight until then.

            Thanks!
