Resale & Reward Points

I have an Atlantic City (gold) that I intend to dump. I will be making a purchase of a Newport Coast (very simular MF's) on the resale market.

The Atlantic City allows me to convert to reward points every other year (75K). But I have never taken the oportunity to do so.

Is there a way to obtain the ability to convert the resale week (float) to reward points should I desire to do so at times?

When you buy resale you give up the option to trade your week for points. You will however still get the Marriott preference with II.

Have you asked Marriott if you can upgrade your MFV for NCV? I am not sure, but I have heard that sometimes they will buy back your week if you are upgrading to another week.

It is worth investigating. With what you would lose if you sell your week, it might work out to be a similar cost to you, and you would still have the point option.

Daniel, a lot of what Angela said is true......
Unfortunately, Marriott will NOT allow an equity upgrade with a Gold Fairway Villas...they do not have enough demand for it.
I actually reconfirmed this today with my Marriott Salesperson as I am a "Gold" owner, too.
There are a few properties and seasons they will not take back - this is one of them.

There have been some reports that some people HAVE been able to trade their resales for point...but I personally wouldn't count on it.

Another question to ask yourself honestly is whether you will really miss those points.....
I wouldn't because I just can't see giving up a 2BR villa use or a 2BR villa deposit plus a bonus week from II or SFX for 100,000 Marriott Reward Points.....not even enough for the a 7 day Cat 5 stay in a hotel room.

I wasn't sure if Marriott would do an equity upgrade with Fairway Villas. Do you know if they would do one with a platinum week?

It's interesting the different stories you hear regarding points. I was recently talking to a Marriott salesperson also, I never asked about the equity upgrade at Fairway, but I did ask about the points.

Thinking about the possibility of purchasing a resale, I inquired about what I would be entitled to. I was told that under no circumstances would Marriott give points to a week purchased through a resale.

I wonder how much of what these sales people say is true.....
