Many posters have complained that they are not able to get thier requested week at their home resort even when calling at 9am, 12 months out. I am wondering just how wide spread this problem is? Who has been successful/unsuccessful, and at what resort? Thanks.

How Successful Have You Been At Getting Your Requested Week At your Home Resort?

I have a platinum (summer) week at Harbour Club in Hilton Head. I have always gotten my requested week (usually July 4th). In summer on Hilton Head, all the weeks are desirable; and most folks have a lot of flexibility as to when to take their summer vacations so there isn't as much competition among owners for specific weeks.

I am a 4 week owner - 2 Platinum and 2 Gold.....but all weeks overlap in terms of reservations....because of this, I can call 13 months out and have always gotten what I requested.....
On occasion, I have locked off one Platinum week - taken my studio and reserved 13 months out with it plus the week after with another week just to get what I wanted for the second week....and then paid the $29 change fee later on to change the studio to what I really wanted with that week.......
There are lots of strategies if you are a multiple week owner....for single week owners, sometimes taking the week before the one you want (if they tell you it is not available) and then immediately putting a request in with II can work,,,,,of course, if you have a resort with a particular view that you own - it would not work.
Calling exactly 12 months out.....and if you don't get it...call back later in the day....several times - as people cancel.

Great statergie if you have those overlaping weeks that give you the 13 month out option.....:Angela
If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Reservations seem not to be an issue at Cypress Harbour special season. I called at 9AM on the dot for my Easter week res, no problem. Checked the web site several hours later, still no problem with availability. Since there is Thurs checkin at this resort, the call in day is 1 day before most. That makes reaching an agent less stressful.

So even if you just want any old week in Hawaii, (assuming of course you own in Hawaii) you still have to play their call and pray game.
Another choice - reserve the first week you can get AFTER the week you REALLY want....and put a 'request first' in with II for the 'real' week..still calling Marriott to see if your week becomes available....if they say YES, press the cancel exchange request button on II and it is yours.
I have a friend who is trying for New Years in Aruba,,,,she has weeks 1 and 2 reserved and has a "Request First" in using week 2 for week 52....either way she has her 2 weeks together and hopefully she will get lucky for New Years (I did!)

Did your friend get the two weeks by splitting a lockout unit?
Do you have any idea how successful people have been getting consecutive winter weeks in Aruba when they split thier lockout?Angela

Both she and I have gotten consecutive weeks by splitting the past 2 years...this year I reserved week 1 1BR Jan 6, 2007 and then March 18, 2007 for the lock-off.
The past 2 years I had consecutive weeks in March...I ended trading my second March 2006 week lock-off for new Years 12/30/06 check-in by requesting the trade in October 2005...I received my confirmation the first week in January.
By consistently planning ahead 13-14 months, I have always gotten what I have requested....
I traded for the Royals Sands Presidents week 2007 in March 2005...but another friend just confirmed the same week at the Royal Mayan yesterday......patience and planning.

I was not referring to overlapping weeks...just locking off and calling 2 weeks in a row.
I wonder if I will be as successful calling 12 months out? I will certainly give it my best shot.....Angela

If you own 1 week you have to call 2 weeks in a row to reserve 2 consecutive weeks....at 12 months out.
Is that any clearer????????
