• Just Back from Marriott's Frenchman's Cove

We just got back from Thanksgiving week at MFC. The units are lovely, pool is nice, beach is adequate....great kids club, lots to do, etc. HOWEVER, there is one HUGE drawback and that is that Marriott never planned for (or intends to secure) a generator. We lost power for 24 hours (4 hours at a time is apparently more usual). The resort did not even have sufficient back-up for the emergency lights, which created an enourmous hazard for all (it was pitch black). They ended up dropping glow sticks all over the place, which was hardly adequate and certainly not up to code. I'll be writing my letter today. Until this is addressed, I certainly would not recommend purchasing here. It is, however, lovely to visit.

    Best,

I am not certain but did not think Marriott would be able to get away with this under current regs., including those for USVI. Have you contacted any government agencies yet?

Many of the codes that were once vastly different seem to have grown towards the motto that the more the better. The codes are generally getting more stringent, which usually translates into more expensive construction. The national codes are becoming more uniform as they all strive to be more rigid and therefore, longer. While there are still many local, small codes that still exist, for example, up until the recent hurricane Marilyn, the Virgin Islands used their own Virgin Islands Code. After hurricane Marilyn, they adopted the Uniform Building Code. Most codes are usually updated every two, three or four years. However, while all the codes are different and vary from region to region, they address similar issues.

I did not, but know definitively that this was reported to local government authorities including the firemarshall.
