  • Park City, Utah in August of 2006

Which would you prefer: Marriott Mountain Side at Park City or Marriott Summit Watch for the first of August, 2006? What is the elevation of Park City and how is the drive to/from Salt Lake City? What is there to do in the area at that time of the year and how are the temperatures?

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Park City in August

Go to www.parkcityinfo.com and check the dates for the annual art festival which is usually the first week of August. For schedule of Park City gallery strolls and other art/food events go to www.kimball-art.org

If you stay at the Summit Watch during the Art festival you will be likely subjected to noise as the vendors arrive early each day to set up and they will be on most of Main Street.

If you stay at the Mountainside you are in a mountain setting and then can just go over to Main Street when you want.

The drive from Salt Lake City is 35 miles all highway, very easy.

If you search for Park City on TUG there have been prior posts with the activities. Of special note is driving the Alpine Loop, Mirror Lake, Utah Olympic training park, Sundance, biathlon range, mountain biking ( bikes get taken up on the lifts), zipline at UOP, boating, jetskis, fun kayaks, and waterskiing on the Jordanelle Reservoir. All the adventure companies in town have tours for river floats, biking, and fly fishing. Thetravel information center in the Reid Building has the best selection of tourist maps. They have the map with all the biking trails color coded for difficulty and showing the routes. All the sports stores have bike rentals. Each store also has its own designated free ride night around town, bikes and helmets provided.

The Mormon Church has a genealogy center on Main Street. Farmers Market comes to Canyons every Wednesday afternoon. Canyons and Deer Valley have summer music festivals.

    For updates:
    www.thecanyons.com

    www.parkcityhistory.org for historic home tours
    parkcityshows.com Eccles center, Egyptian theater
    deervalleymusicfestival.org
    pcmusicfestival.com

Park City has numerous and excellent full service spas. Look for summer specials.

If you drive north of SLC one day, the Hill Air Force Base has an extensive, private collection of military aircraft including a stealth bomber.

Altitude is 6500 to 8500 typically, but you're not likely to go to the summit.
Just drink lots of water and watch the alcohol.

I would call the Summit Watch more upscale in decor, but the Mountainside is no slouch either.
