  • Marriott's Manor Club at Ford's Colony

Has anyone here stayed in this property? Please share your experience. Is first week of July a good time to vacation in Williamsburg, Virginia?

    Thank you.

We stayed in the older phase in 2002. It was nice enough, but the staff was not very responsive. First week of July is in the beginning of peak season and might be a bit too hot and crowded for me, however everything should be open at that time. I would return to this resort.

In my humble opinion I feel this is truely a Five Star Resort with a great staff. It is located in one of the most prestige communities in James City County, Ford Colony. If you are also a member of TUG please read their review section about this resort.

TUG (Timeshare Users Group) is another website devoted to timeshare issues. TUG has a bulletin board and a resort review section.

Have stayed in both the old and newer sections. I Prefer the older 2bd sections. The older section exterior looks more upscale. The lockout in the newer section is teeny, and w/no balcony (hubby and I love to eat breakfast on the balcony).

I was not as overly impressed with the resort as some are. However, The resort IS nice, the area is nice.

The planned activities are sufficient; if you have young children, there is a huge pool and playground area for kids.

Near the newer section, there are many bbq grills throughout the park area.

There is a mini mart onsite, near the check-in area. Loads of restaurants in the area. There are outlets/discount stores everywhere in the area. There are a couple good grocery stores nearby.

If you are a golfer, you will definitely like the resort.

And, as Tonyg mentioned -- it can get extremely hot/humid during the summer. The sun stings the skin (when we were kids, we used to place a small magnifying glass near the skin, and let the sun sting us -- that is what it reminds me of). I was born in STL, Mo, and I guess I am used to the high humidity. I now live near Williamsburg, and I have adjusted to the stinging sun.

You will enjoy the resort and the area. You made a good choice.
            hope this info helps,

Thanks deede. Your more comprehensive comment is very helpful since this will be our first time to stay there and to vacation in Williamsburg.

What was it that made you not overly impressed? Would you mind to elaborate?

The older sections (there are actually two) are, IMO, perhaps one of the top 5 resorts anywhere in quality. The newer section is like any other nice resort. Overall the resort is too isolated from the other features of Willliamsburg IMO - that means if you can't get the older sections it's not a great trade.

I can't speak for Marriott as we haven't styaed there but we did go to Willimasburg for 4th of July week a few years ago.

It is hot and it is humid but Water Country provided a nice break and Busch Gardens is one of the better thought out amusement parks for shady areas.
You are also only about an hour from Virginia Beach and the ocean water temps were just right for me and I'm a wuss about that. I don't like cold water. Va Beach is a great day trip.

You may want to check your AAA for discount tickets to Busch Gardens parks. They also do great fireworks displays throughout the area to celebrate the fourth.

Marriott is Marriott, I'm sure you will enjoy your stay there.

The fact that sooo many vistors/owners at this resort RAVED so about it, I was expecting too much. I had read so many comments about the UPSCALE residential neighborhood; the FABULOUS furnishings in the units; etc. I went there looking for a palace/castle (a truly self-contained place), and found a regular place out in surburbia. The first time we visited, the newer section was recently opened, and I found it to be too sterile/cold. The exterior of those buildings were blah and uninviting.

Besides, I am a beach person, so my perspective of a great resort is limited. I did not mean to sound so negative. I have gone back, and will go again -- friends exchange there, and we join them (we live close-by Williamsburg).

John (Timeos) touched on what I was trying to say. You do have to drive a bit to get to most activities/sites of interest.

You WILL enjoy your stay -- the resort is nice. Not a lot of pressure to purchase, which is extremely nice -- IMHO.

I would like to recommend that you visit the Marriott's web site this will give a better idea how the resort looks. The older section (MMC) villas are much larger in sq footage than the newer MSE units(lock-out units).

Isloated yes and no. You are only about 10 - 15 minutes from the new Town Center (located in James City County), oulet malls, two major shopping cenetrs, Busch Gardens, Water County USA, Colonial Williamsburg and some great rsestaurants.

You can also visit this web site: Timeshare Users Group for Marriott's Owners and look under Marriott's Manor Club at Ford Colony. An owner took some great pictures of this resort.

That is why reviews must be taken for with a grain of salt. There are a few resorts that get SO DRUMMED UP ( like this one and OLCC and a couple of others ) that when you get to your perfectly acceptable timeshare you become disappointed.

But they are perfectly good places to hang your hat and enjoy an area.

I guess different people have different expectations. Vacationeer's reviews are useful in that they give you a general feeling of what to expect especially if you have not been to such a place.

I've been to other Marriott resorts (I own a week in Orlando), and I have been very happy with the accomodation and service that my family has received.

Marriott, from what I have read, maintains the level of quality from resort to resort - they try anyway.

We did the walking tour of Ford's Colony Marriott offered and the area around was a bit upscale. I didn't think the location was that rural as it's a short drive to many of the places we usually go in Williamsburg and actually centrally located for our needs. A local map will give you an idea of how to get where you want to go more easily.

Manor Club is tops in my book

I've stayed at a lot of very nice timeshare resorts...including eight Marriotts and many, many others over 26 years of timesharing. In my experience, I think that the units and furnishings at Manor Club (the original section) are absolutely the nicest I have ever seen. Beautiful colonial decor with exceptional attention to detail. Spacious rooms, formal fireplaces, large screened balconies. The brick buildings with their authentic colonial architecture also represent the most elegant exterior of any resort I have ever been to.

It's true that the swimming pools are nothing special compared to some resorts, but the architecture and decor of the villas at Manor Club are stunning...IMHO. So, count me among those who rave about Manor Club. It's hard for me to understand how anyone would not appreciate the rare and superlative timeshare experience that is Manor Club.

However, different people see things differently. Some people rave about Marriott Desert Springs Villas in Palm Desert, CA...and I didn't like that resort. It's the only Marriott timeshare I've been to that I haven't liked. So...obviously...tastes vary.

But Manor Club is first class.
