Is it better to turn your week over to Marriott for deposit in II or should one try for the best week and deposit it oneself? In other words, is letting Marriott reserve your week for you a benefit for you?

I would suggest depositing your week yourself......Call Marriott, and reserve the best week possible. Then, go online to your II account, and deposit your week.
No benefit in letting Marriott deposit your week for you, and certainly no benefit in letting them choose the week to be deposited.
BTW, you can call Marriott 9 AM EST, and be online at the same time trying to get your first choice week. It's possible, tho difficult, that if you don't get it on the first try, you'll get it in a few days/week later. So, you don't need to give up on your first try.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Thanks to your advice, I was able to book a high demand week that qualifies for an accomodation certificate. I haven't received it yet, but II reps assure me that it is coming. Aside from it expiring in one year, they didn't really detail any of the other limitations. Do you happen to know what the more important ones might be?
Thanks again. Y'all have helped a lot!

The best use, at least in the past, has been for the Flexchange period when most restrictions are removed. If it's avaialable you should be able to exchange for most resorts. A few resorts have a limitation of no AC exchanges in (or so I've heard) but they seem to be very few and far between.
Generally speaking you can not us an AC to exchange back into the resort for which your deposit received the AC.Our timeshare and other photo's at http://dougp26364.smugmug.com/
