Article from Marco Island paper stating that Marriott has suspended their onsite sales at this resort..
One day Marriott will wise up and contract their onsite sales for niche resorts to outside brokers.
These resort locations still have great potential to generate sales, but don't have the same numbers as their flagship destinations such as Orlando and Vegas (where the tour traffic is consistently heavy)..
If Marriott contracted to an outside broker- they could then generate "rent" from these sales offices- and still supply developer inventory and training- but avoid the employer costs associated with the endeavor. If onsite sales weren't enough to generate a profit for the broker- they'd pull out, but I bet another would quickly apply to replace them.
It seems such a simple solution to me. Upper management just hasn't been able to muster the chutzpa... But then, good sales people often have a very hard time accepting that they've failed.
