  • Where to buy NCV resale? Platinum and/or Gold

We have visited NCV and love it and are within driving distance (a long drive). We want to buy resale. FYI we are seriously frugal shoppers - one thing that has held us back from buying a timeshare in the past is that we (I) have always found weeks available for when we wanted, where we wanted, AND at the last minute AND at a good price ($750 NCV this summer for a week for the week we wanted, $1300 for Shadow ridge for spring break a few years ago etc.). We are frugal and last minute but now with two kids and loving NCV we want to "commit".

I have tracked recent prices on Ebay and on this site (ROFR page), and hope to buy a platinum for about $12-12.5K. This seems to be what recent ebay prices have been going for. It would seem that buying direct would be good for the seller since they would save on ebay costs. Is that a good idea to try to find someone directly? and where to look?

I know the price is much lower than what is listed on redweek but it does seem to be the going rate on ebay and with the direction in prices they may even go lower - the economy is not going to pick up in the fall, so I think it is fair. I also noticed the gold week which sold for $4.5 K two weeks ago on eaby. I am wondering, do prices fall toward the end of the year/early winter as the time to book for next year has passed (also do MF have to be paid Jan 1?)? I imagine that we won't be able to get summer for next year (and we need to since we have school age kids) so for us and others it isn't worth as much as it would have been early in the summer when we could have booked a summer week for 2010 (in theory). Anyway, all that factors into my pricing... what are the opinions out there on this?

Finally, if a gold week came available we would consider it at a bargain price, even though there would be no chance of using it this year (having read the thread below from the recent ebay buyer) since we could find something to use it for in the summer and we could use it in future years.

Thanks in advance for all your comments from a newbie.

We just bought a NCV gold week. We paid $7500. We have also seen that there have been a couple of people who have been able to buy for less.

Personally with so many bad weeks within the platinum season (basically all Oct-Dec) I choose to skip the platinum season and buy gold.

If u purchased a Gold week - your first use would be 2010 as the gold season has passed for 2009.

If you purchased a Platinum week, you would want to specify that your usage would start in 2010 as by the time u would close - there would be virtually no time left to get a reservation.

BUT, if u do buy a 2010 Platinum, it would be good if the previous owner already has a summer 2010 reservation - you can request that the reservation transfer with the new ownership and Marriott will honor that.

As u have mentioned kids, I am assuming u would need a July/August reservation...and there is a lot of competition for those summer weeks.

I'm also a newbie but will comment based upon my limited knowledge and research prior to purchasing a Marriott resale.

If you purchase directly from the seller, just remember to perform your due diligence and use a reputable closing company. You do not save a lot of money if at the end of the day the seller cannot convey good title to the timeshare or there are encumbrances against the unit.

From what I learned, if you purchase a timeshare in 2009 and the week is still available for use, then sellers may request reimbursement of the maintenance fees. For purchase offers accepted this late in 2009, even though closing and transfer may not occur until 2010, the buyer is generally expected to pay the 2010 MF. Prior to listing a resale, many astute sellers will reserve a high demand week in order to sweeten the resale deal. Gold owners of NCV on the resale market should have a ressie or at the very least banked their 2010 week.

        HTH,
        Brigitte
