  • Domus Romana

I just received an e-mail from RHC stating that they will no longer be affiliated with the Domus Romana in Rome, Italy. Any reservations already in place at the Domus are being moved to the Residence Palazzo al Velabro which will be a new Rome location for RHC. I LOVED the Domus!!
I was at the Domus for 1 month this past fall and felt like I was leaving my home when it was time to check out! We became very good friends with the staff there!
They say that this new place is walking distance from the Colosieum and is
    very nice.

Reviews at Tripadvisor are quite positive. Rate at Internet booking is 230 euros per night.

      Points Devaluation

I had my reservation Sept 1-12 at the Domus moved to the Residence Palazzo al Velabro.

Just like the changes to the NY Affinia Resorts, I believe the only reason that RHC changes contracted resorts is so that they can increase the number of points requiredfor equivalent accomodations.

While it would certainly seem that way, there is really nothing that keeps them from changing points that I know of. It may result in a backlash from members though so the easy way is to change to another venue for affiliation. At Affinia Dumont and Affinia Manhattan they only had four units each, probably close to the same for Italian properties. So when the annual contract costs become too much for them to justify the points required they phase it out and bring in fresh meat that they can value higher.

We stayed at Palazzo al Velabro in early April. We loved the location, and were relatively pleased with the accommodations. There is no grocery store nearby, so we barely used the kitchen. The breakfast provided was pleasant, but pricey.
I can send pictures, if you would like, although the website is quite good.
The decor is very stark and modern.

            Palazzo Velabro

I had a friend use my points to stay at PV and she was very unhappy with it. Said the room was small and the staff unfriendly - the breakfast pricey and not very good. Not like the tripadvisor reviews at all. So???? I think she is pretty picky but would like more input from anyone who has been or is going? I am scheduled to be in a Presidential this December with my cousin - hoping it will be better than my friend told me.

Anyone know what is up with New York for next year? Crowne Plaza is still not open - are they renegotiating - maybe going back to Affinia?
