  • Powell Place in San Francisco

    Hi all -

I just booked a week in San Francisco in 2011 @ Powell Place via RHC... has anyone stayed there? Thoughts?

I was amazed at how easy it was to book, actually. I was expecting a fight, but no problem, they booked it right away - 15,672 points for the week.

While on the phone, I also paid my maintenance fee via AmEx (why not get points from AmEx?) and accumulated my credits into 2011.

All done, according to the online site ...

I don't seem to have the constant aggravation with RHC that some people do -- they've been nothing but helpful to us. Very grateful for that!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Did you get a studio or a 1 bd?

Occupancy is strictly enforced here. Don't exceed your occupancy. They also won't let you split your week (i.e. stay a few days..let someone else finish the week)

There is an energy fee. Can't remember what it was..I think it's 5.00 a day.

Your turn your key in at the desk as you come and go. It's REAL keys not electronic.

Those are the quirks of the place.

It has a good location...on the cable car route too. I believe they have daily maid service.

A few members here have stayed there. Hopefully they will chime in. I have never heard any bad reviews. Once you get past the quirks of the place-most say it's charming and would return.

I sent a guest there this past summer. They LOVED it. I think you will too.

    Have fun!

We enjoyed our stay here, but certainly encountered the quirks mentioned above. Definitely not a big, anonymous timeshare experience.
Make sure you watch for the outfits that the manger dresses her dogs in each day.

Location is good, About few blocks to Chinatown. 1 block down hill is where their parking garage is, you can find few restaurant/bar there, it is very steep uphill walk back to the resort though. Resort block is actually quite most resident area.

Resort has wireless network. It is inside city, so not too much activities inside the resort.

The decor is elegant. Space is crowd but enough room to moving around. Also remember the daily maid service but not sure.

Stayed in a studio, it was spacious and lovely. Great location. Stresscadet's post addresses the "quirks," but they were not a problem for us.

Thanks you all for the quick replies!

Occupancy is not an issue; this trip is just my wife and I.

I think I'm going to give them a call, though. My trip is only for 5 days, but RHC said I couldn't book just 5 days - either 4 days or a week... So we booked a week. I don't mind paying the points (or the energy surcharge) for the entire week, but I won't be there physically until the 2nd day of my week. RHC said that would be OK, but we all know how well RHC verifies their details

            Thanks all!! Can't wait!!!

Good idea to let them know you'll be a day late. It will be fine. they just won't let you give your unoccupied nights to anyone else. Enjoy!!

I realize this is a very old post, but I wanted to update it with my experience...

                IT WAS WONDERFUL!

Powell Place was an EXCELLENT place to stay. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Really. An excellent experience all the way around!

dmurphy, thanks for posting. I recently booked a September week for my DD and SIL at Powell Place in a 1-bedroom, and an August week for my BIL and partner in a studio, so I am happy to hear they have a good chance of liking their "digs".

They're going to love it - we were very happy! the only downside is the hike up the hill from the parking garage, but it was good exercise I guess!
