Wow, this is the first positive forum I've found on Royal Holiday Club.

I went through some trouble with RHC with a 30 yr contract that I was able to down-grade to a trial program, or " Dream Vacation " package.

Does anyone have this package or any advice on how to best use the points with the activation costs?

well, it may not be very helpful but they gave me only the spanish version and told me to trust them that this was the best option for me.

I dont have to pay any maintenence fees and the $3000USD I spent is the only charge I will receive from using my new vacation package. Just not sure if its worth me even using it or should I just write the $3000USD off?

What is the rule of using them? Don't know spainsih either, but sounds like there is a cost to use each certification.

In that cases, it is like you pay to joint a vacation club. Which a few people does that.

If you need to pay for each, and if your trip does not allow you to carry the unused points or combine certification together, only the 1st 2 is very attraction. But since you already paid $3000, you can take the first 12 ones (to 5 10,000 credit). If it can not be combined, some maybe only 3 days. So the last one 5 10,000 credit needs to be used in some places with low credit need but high lodging cost. The last 5 tickets in that set needs some work. The other 7 tickets are good to great depends on how many people will travel and if they allow you to keep the reminding credit or not.

What is the rule to use them? I assume if not last min, it will be you can make reservation 1 year ahead? And what about last min?

Well, you need to find out what the 7 year's use means. Does it starts with the date it gives you or the 1st day you use it.

You do need to pay to use them.

5 Certificates of Friends ($199 activation of usd)
both are very negative value IMHO.

I will first figure out if I want take any vacation at all in that 7 year period. If so, how many and when is likely schedule. If you know in advance, then the regular Certificate will work much better. Otherwise, you may want to try last min one. Unless you see take vacation as waste of money thing (since you do need come up with extra for vacation), once you know how many trips you plan to use it, you will know if you want try last min first or regular first.

If you need more than 7 trips, I will try last min first. First try to find out if they will send you their vacation monthly eMail, if so, it usually lists last min deal, and you can try to match it. If not, let us know when you have time to travel. I do get their eMail, if I saw your post, I will post it.

If you need only few trips out of 7 years using these certification, just go to their site, figure out where and when you want go, plan few alternative places, then use the regular tickets.

At this moment, I will consider $3000 is a write off since you will paying more for any savage, but if you get any vacation out of it, they do have very good resort locations. I will treat each trip as I got it for free. Then at the end, I will reconsider the experience with that $3000 added back. I will think if you can get any vacation out of it, it will always worth the money.

I only took a quick glance at this but his use costs are similar to the annual fees for a membership at the point level specified.

1 Certificate Dream Vacations = 30,000 HC (activation from $699 usd) (annfee= 660 usd)
5 Certificates Premium Vacations = 15,000 HC (activation from $399 usd) (annfee= 465 usd)
5 Special Certified Vacations = 10,000 HC (activation from $349 usd) (annfee= 395 usd)

Besides his initial buy-in (which is money spent no matter if you use this or not) his usage costs are the same as annual fees.
